There are some more knots in my knots playlist that you might like. The way the siberian hitch is tied at the end of the video is my favorite way to tie it.

G’day, Marty. A suggestion: when demonstrating rigging a tarp, and saying, “I’m connecting to the second tie down…” that can be useless. My 10’X10’ has 9 tie down points on all sides. Yours may have 7, or 5, or 3? Etc. I suggest that you demonstrate a percentage of the distance, so that each camper can adjust the tarp as best they can. Courtesy of Half Vast Flying

I attached soft shackles to the guylines on my tarp, then I attached the soft shackles to the prusik hitches using kite knots.

Top Tip - Regarding your comment about facing away from the wind. You actually need to be diagonally facing so your tarp does not turn into a sail. Equally, if you're making a fire you have the luxury of oxygen breathing into your fire while the smoke is blown away. Great video though. Subbed

For the Gunyah setup, I don't think was mentioned you should lay the tarp upside down. If not, the center pullout will be underneath when set up.

Tarp shelters are only good in bugs free season for sleeping and use as a tent .

Gunyah is my favourite setup (with plow point and tarp tent) since I’ve seen it the first time in Scottys video - although I needed a couple of videos to figure it out … and a few weeks later he came up with his instruction. ;-) Glad to see you promoting it … it deserves attention!

Gunyah can also be "closed down" in really heavy weather. Take the pole out (on the right in this video); adjust the pole and flaps (to the left in this video) until the flap to the left meets the middle flap closing it all in a triangular configuration.

I’ve tarp tented right on a river when kayaking with mosquito bush all around me, had no issues with bugs since I was relatively close to my fire. Maybe I got lucky but the only bug I saw near me was a sand spider making a home under my backpack

most of them, not really for heavy rain weather... if the rain/wind changes overnight, you are pretty screwed... Gunyah is nice tho. Also usually nobody counts with damp ground. Everybody just makes tarp setups for when the rain will start.
@martymorissette
@martymorissette 2 жыл бұрын
Agreed if wind turns around in the night you will have to readjust... But honestly the Plow and the Gunyah I wouldn't be concerned about it at all. The Plow if you set it up as close to the tree as possible you will also be protected by it's branches!

a comment to the prussik knot: the knot should not be at the center but offset to the side, so that a carabiner etc won't rest on the knot.
