Trying a $321 Bowl of Soup

Beef noodle soup is a staple throughout Taiwan. You’ll pay around $6 for a bowl at most restaurants in Taipei. But you’ll fork over $321 for the elite beef noodle soup at Niu Ba Ba. Yes, $321. For. One. Bowl. Why so expensive? Well, for starters, it is made with high-quality wagyu beef. If it’s too pricey for you, there are options-a premium beef noodle soup that costs $160 a bowl and a classic version that goes for under $20. While the restaurant has fixed prices now, there was a time when customers could pay whatever they wanted for the soup. One diner chose to pay close to $1,000, which makes $321 sound like a bargain.

I had a $400 ramen in houston before. True story. I went to this ramen place near the downtown area and the ramen was really good. It was $15 and it was amazing. Then I go back to the place where I parked my car, only to find out it got towed because the sign that says I couldn't park there was covered by a tree. So I had to spend another $375 for my car

Feels like such a waste of wagyu. The way noodle soup is done, even the toughest of cuts of beef would get tenderized after prolonged cooking in the soup. So upgrading to wagyu feels like its an incremental improvement at best.

They actually cook the wagyu seperately. It doesn't get boiled for three days. Saw it in another video of this same shop whereby the process was broken down more thoroughly. IIRC they actually use 5 different beef cuts and breed in the most expensive one. The bones and meat used for making the stock isn't served in the most expensive bowl, only the soup is used.

well made noodles from a machine are far better than shitty noodles made by hand now you try and fit in a gigantic machine in your shop see how it works out for you. It’s better to leave it to the biggest manufacturer based on how they study the quality of said noodles not because it’s done by a manufacturer it means it’s automatically bad they’re specialist and don’t like to fuck around, just because you buy cheap noodles doesn’t mean they do factories have different segmenta for different markets. Also regarding meat it all depends on how long it has been frozen I mean do you think refrigeration could bring A5 meat to the US alone? No freezing at all? Of course it’s ok to use freezing if you know what the fuck you’re doing. I mean tbh if you have a doubt on a restaurant that became extremely famous to be featured in a video like this try it before you attack them.

If you can afford the wagyu noodle soup, I say go for it. If not, and you can handle street vendors, their noodle soups can be amazing as well. Tip: When ordering, know the difference between beef noodle soup (牛肉麵) and beef soup with noodles (牛肉湯麵). Beef soup has no beef.

I work at a Japanese Shabu Shabu restaurant and we sell A-5 Miyazaki for $105 at 14oz and that’s a lower quality than A-5 Wagyu. The pricing is reasonable and restaurants offer these “one-off” experiences to make their restaurants stand out; it’s not about the money, it’s about advertisement.

I feel like people are underestimating this traditional dish. It doesnt have to have gold, kaviar, or truffle because the soup itself is so rich in flavor after cooking for 3 days. Such premium wagyu beef and recipe, what did you expect? It is a beef noodle soup after all. Even the prices aren’t by them, they are by the customers who bought it, they then averaged the prices of what the customers paid. I don’t understand why are people putting so much hate on this traditional noodle soup. These people at the restaurant put so much effort into making one bowl of soup. I mean Those Japanese people just simply put the wagyu on a stove and cook it, rather here they let the flavors soak through for 3 whole days. (Not to be rude, the Japanese ones aren’t bad at all) Stop saying this is a “waste of wagyu” and “props to the guy who spent $16” *The customers chose the price, not the restaurant*

@jaysee5397 3 жыл бұрын
@@jaden8581 he’s comparing the quality and price of ramen and this beef noodle soup. Some of the best ramen can be sold for just 1usd and disnt need to sacrifice taste for a good price. Which could have been the case for this beef noodle soup. Simple ingredients which are cheap and can be afforded by the simple can taste just as good as this 321usd bowl of noodle soup without having to price it like that. There are many amazing foods around the world that have kept the price normal and cheap without needing to raise it to extortionate prices just because someone was willing to pay for it. By doing that, normal people can’t enjoy this creation anymore and either have to scrimp and save to taste this or never taste it at all. This beef noodle soup could have been enjoyed by the masses if they just kept the price lower. Lower price doesn’t mean lower quality and less effort put into it. It’s just a marketing scheme to get people to pay extortionate amounts of money for a very good bowl of beef noodle soup.
