I am so glad Asmon didn't start out in the new zone. Even though the text on the selection screen says "Recommended for Veteran Adventurers", it's still beyond me how they even offer this for new players. Should've been grayed out for your first playthrough.

I think people would enjoy the main story quest more if they received a shortened version of it with the option to take a deep dive. Usually people just want to get to the reward/gameplay that is unlocked by them.

Many Korean streamers actually liked the 'land of the morning light' story. That is because it's based on Korean folk tale which they heard before. Yes, BDO story kinda feels like I am starting from season 2.

Actually they just add a new function that separates your inventory into categories. Like ingredients, buffs, scrolls, etc

Tbf, BDO has been trying to add more narratives to their story quests for a while now. Some of them are actually interesting. Though their engine is still cranky causing some funny glitches, and their skill effects are unnecessary as blinding as ever, if not more. The extremely grindy and competitive nature of the game isn't to my liking, but honestly they give a very good amount of free gifts for returners and newbies.

BDO is making very good moves. It's still got a way to go, but currently the people in charge seem to want to change to what players want. So far anyway, only time will tell.

Peon isn't really a story person so not really surprised with his reaction to the story. He is right with the game overwhelming new players with stuff that may only be useful in end game.

i understand why asmon wants to keybind everything but i have to say pressing the buttoncombos is so much more satisfying, it kinda makes casting spells so much more "immersive" and fun i cant even explain it

I make a point to show Asmons vids to my parents. Just to remind them that they wouldn’t let me play video games growing up because it was a useless skill that would lead to nowhere. So I wasted 8 years of my life seeking higher education degrees. I have a BS in Political Science and History with a minor in religious studies and Spanish. I then went on to law school and graduated with my JD. So now I’m hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt and here is Asmon, living the life I desperately wanted for myself. I wish I had a bigger back bone when I was younger and stood up to them, but alas here I am, working a job I hate and completely switching gears and moving on to doing something that has nothing to do with all those fancy degrees I got. What I overwhelmed me as a new player is just how much there is of items with SAME exact function (e.g combat exp scrolls), but named differently and taking up different inventory slots. Like wth??

You can now skip LOML's cutscenes currently on KR and will be available worldwide soon. And, I loved the LOML story. The content of this continent is for those who like stories or those who are interested in the old culture of Korea. All the stories of LOML are taken from Korean folktales. Hare and turtle too. If you're not interested in the story, I think it's natural that it's not fun but it's disappointing to hear that.

just started BDO 5 days ago, already lvl 59 but have 0 silver/cash. Love the combat. Janky core UI and the only 'R' button - feels like this game was desighed for consoles and it's just a PC port. Also after RDR2 any game with horses: bruh

bro i just had a idea with what you said, you are right YOU dont want to learn combos but tekken type players do. what if there was a MMO that was like the world of tekken and classes were basically styles of combat and you leveled and went around a open world where players could pvp kinda like wow pvp servers there could be content to learn from new masters like pokemon you go to a gym and fight some bad ass boss and if you beat him you get to learn from him to get his knowledge foir new combos and fighting styles. might be a new type of game fighting players would love. i mean tekken and fighting games are HUGE what a cool way to bring both worlds together and make a shit ton of money at the same time.

So what @Asmongold is saying is that he would like to play BDO which is known for one of the best action combat out of any MMOs but only if It played more like a tab targeting one. WTF is that kinda logic. Its like saying Witcher 3 and God of War are great games but I wish they let me keybind or hotbar all the combat moves. That goes absolutely against what the action combat in those games is all about and especially in BDO where its one of the best features of the game and a core mechanic. Its not a matter of "Let me choose how I want to control the character" when combat is the biggest highlight of the whole game upon which it was built. Asmon is way off the mark on this one.

You have only a handful of skills for each class that you can bind. At least 2 or 3 per class that you can cast them only if they are keybound. Cannot bind all of them.

One thing to remember. the number of classes reflects on the number of races. more unique race means less class, fewer races means multiple class

It literally says when you start the character and you have to choose which path to take "LOML VETERAN PLAYERS SUGGESTED" on there.

I recommend yall actually read the first 8 dialogues of the tales cause imo it was actually good to be a part of a story and I actually had fun even tho I'm new to the game

Asmongold, I hope you give bdo another shot. I reccomend taking things one at a time and it's ok to be overwhelmed at first. It's a great game, and one thing about bdo that they do really well is it gives you freedom on how you progress and you don't need to rush. Once you understand the game you can start pushing. Theres no rush just take your time and learn! Progression comes quick, take it easy.

I’m confused, I remember when my friends used to play this game, they made a point to tell me that if you die in the world or from another player, you would lose everything you had on you? Is this no longer the case or does it happen in later zones?

My issue with BDO is that the beginning feels bad to play as a new player i hate the initial experience its awful. The game looks fun at end game but i can't bother myself to put up with how garbage it is early to get to end game.

I would say play wizard or witch because you can bind much better. The awakening seems to not have combos at all. but its also more of a pvp spec. The main spec does have combos but you chain them together by pressing right click after doing 1 ability of the same element. So you literally put a few abilities (1 of each element) on your bar and press it, then right click a few times and you get massive combos. And also many of the "combos" dont need to be fully executed to kill shit anyway, and once you learn the games designed keybinds (mainly shift + e, q, c, f OR s + e, q, c, f) the class becomes easy. I know, I know.. "I just wanna keybind my own spells, its that simple, if i cant then im a madboi"

I think once you understand the combat and get it into your musclememory, its super intuitive and satisfying! All the classes have some sort of similaritys in the combos and combination, so switching class is not too hard once you mastered it once :) It just needs a little time and commitmend and the game becomes one of the best out there. My opinion, I can only advise people to go beyond the first hustle and start enjoying the game after that, the fun after overcoming the first hustle is absolutely worth it! 🤗 Tho I do understand why people quit after playing 5 hours 😓 It's not for casual players.

Land of the Morning Light is actually built for someone like Asmon, who would rather watch story cut scenes than fight and grind. That's the irony of it. PA tried to make something different to cater to a different crowd, and based on the recent popularity boost, it's working. For lazypeon, he's like me, he would rather just enjoy combat and grind.

I enjoyed the story in the new expansion but it should really not the first choice for new players. It really doesn't give much of the game experience and it's way too much lore compared to gameplay. The boss fights you unlock instead are quite great

I prefer quality over quantity when it comes to classes. Id rather have 10 really excellent classes instead of 35 mediocre ones.

Completely disagree with Peon on his statement about FF14 "But what about the gameplay?" The gameplay is just as good if not better than the game's story. I've never had more fun doing raids and endgame content than in FF14. The only point at which gameplay suffers for the story is ARR and that's cause they don't want to bombard people with 15-25 abilities right from the start.

nah the msq was good, peon is just mad as always, he doesnt like msq on any game so he shouldnt be judging the expansion based on it took me roughly 5/6 hours to complete (while reading everything). Most feedback on the questline has also been positive from the playerbase... he didnt give it a chance and just complained Also it isnt quite true, you have a lot of combat encounters including bosses, that will be challenging for new players for sure. You just not going from grind spot X to Y killing 100 mobs on each as part of the questline progression... You're fighting less time, but the combat encounters are more meaningful and challenging

I have a friend with whom I have been playing BDO since 2018. He always reads all the writings, when he first started. And he told me that BDO actually has good stories. I believed him and I started reading it. There are some really interesting stories but the presentation is REALLY FUCKING BORING. IT JUST DOESNT END!

I enjoyed LOML questline until it became too long. PA is clrealy trying to put some more effort into it as lazypeon said, but it was way too long. Still, PA devs are constantly improving BDO and listening to their players to do so, something that not many MMO nowadays can say, so everything will just keep getting better.

I don't think anyone is against being able to quickslot everything, but spell queue is problematic. People spend hours practicing timing, and if one could just 1234567 entire combo after first CC in PvP, it'd be catastrophic. The least they can do is require 234567 to be pressed after the previous skill finishes, or when it can be cancelled. Then sure, quickslot everything, be happy. Movement will be an absolute mess without action combat mechanics and would probably require learning anyway, but it could serve to ease in TAB-target players. First they only move with mouse+action combat mechanics, then they slowly decide to incorporate more skills, then decide that it may not be that bad, and then can't play other games like us BDO slaves.

To be honest, if you are a player who finds the BDO approach to combo action combat to be undesirable, then I don't think you should waste your time on this game. I hated BDO combat when I first started but fell in love with it over time (I started off wishing the combat was more like TERA). I would normally tell a person to take their time and enjoy the game, but since you are doing this for content which means a few thousand backseat drivers, I can't see any universe in which you actually end up enjoying this. Just my 2 cents. Peace. \m/

The tales are actually really cool little ghost stories. Peoples patience is so thin in the west. They are genuinely good. Theres one where a nine tail fox is giving people foxpox and you have to solve the epidemic and fight her. Theres another with a crazy old grandma who appears in a field and asks where her baby went and then murders people and you have to solve who she is. In general they are not as bad as people are saying. Its kinda bs imo.

BDO actually have a good story its just bad dilivery.. i complete the mq a few week ago and read all the dialogue.. for me most of the story is really enjoyable its just lack of voiceline and they really need to shorten it and reduce the amount of filler quest in between

The problem with the eyes is they colored the pupils. Pupils are black; they don't take on the color of the iris.

You can just warrior has to high a APM but you can keybinds better on other classes

Asmon constantly asking for the combat to change simply for his own type of enjoyment is so ridiculous. As lazypeon said it's like buying a sports car and asking about the storage space... You're playing a game that's designed around action combat and then you complain that you don't want action combat...

On a side note , Diablo 4 comment about the Lillith statues , makes the argument for D4 being terrible even stronger ....

For me the beauty of the game is its difficulty and how extensive it is. Each object has its function, if you think it's too complex, it's not your game, period.

Complete nonsense review, the story was very good, i'm saddened you guys lack the interest to even attempt to enjoy it. It would take me so much text to explain how and why BDO got to this point. In short his review is from a player who loved OG BDO's sandbox launch, and after PA has been bombarded with players yearning for better stories and more identifying purpose this is what we're getting. You guys should go back to WoW and leave BDO to those of us that recognize it for the gem it is.
