For the 120mm to be more extreme, you can try to do the whole soaking process in a darkroom and unroll it partly in the bowl for the time of the soak so it really maximises contact surface! Then reroll all back in the darkroom and do all the next steps normally :)

Thank you so much for this! I watched your video twice and just dropped a cartridge of Super 8 tri-x reversal film in some hot water with raspberry tea and salt. Yikes! Wish me luck! Anyway, your video provides incredibly helpful detailed instructions - much appreciated.

Thanks so much for watching! ✨ It would at least add some water spots and speckling! I’m not exactly sure if it would affect the color that much, but I’m sure if you did some green tea or lemon juice it would add some sort of tint to it. I definitely want to try that out at some point!

How long did you soak it for? I did film soup but soaked it for 5 weeks or more. 35mm with a roll of 120. The 120 eventually will stop floating and sink down into the mix . It is still in my fridge in rice. I did this last year and added unexposed rolls of film and negatives. I am just waiting on the funds to send it out to be developed. My photo lab won't touch it.

I have some old family negatives that I’d like to use in my art. However I want to “wash out” some of the images so that people won’t be recognizable. Any recommendations? Thanks. 😃
@camerasncats
@camerasncats 25 күн бұрын
hmm I'd be so nervous to mess with the negatives... personally, I'd probably try messing with the images in photoshop or lightroom first and trying out some burning and dodging tools or something like that. Or, another fun option, you could scan them yourself with other items lying on top of the negatives, like flower petals or glitter or something fun! That would give you a lot of control and you wouldn't be affecting the original negative. I'm just OCD that way and I hate to mess up the original negatives! Thanks for commenting and watching! Hope those ideas help. ☺

@@camerasncats Thanks for responding. I don’t think you understand what I’m trying to do. I WILL be ruining the negatives, as I will be sewing through them in my artwork. But I wanted to alter them first so that the people’s faces wouldn’t be recognized….in the slim chance that anyone in the future viewed the negatives. I was thinking of brushing them a bit with bleach, but I was concerned that would be too strong . Thanks again. 😃
@camerasncats
@camerasncats 24 күн бұрын
@@elainet5870oh ok! That sounds like a fun project! Bleach would probably be a good idea, or even lemon juice or vinegar might maybe be strong enough to alter them. Or you could just use paint and a tiny paintbrush. Sounds fun though, best of luck with your art! 😊

@camerasncats

I always put the film in the soup after shooting the roll. I wouldn’t recommend soaking them before shooting because it may mess up your camera!

Right... don’t mess up your camera with ‘film soup’ but it’s okay to mess up a labs chemicals 🥳

@@aprilroselilleyman I always reach out to the lab first to make sure they’re okay with it. Blue Moon Camera in Portland, Oregon was extremely helpful and didn’t mind at all. ✨

@@camerasncats good on you for letting them know 😊 I used to work in a lab and the amount of wet film/film soup rolls we’d get without knowing was crazy 🥵 would constantly ruin our machines chemicals and we’d have to dump and refill it every time. It’s a big stress if the lab doesn’t know.
