Also if or when you find the sugar in chai or other sweet dishes too strong, better to avoid them, or slow down the consumption, as that's a signal from our body that the sugar is impacting us slowly. I had a sugar rush and unhealthy moment recently from eating some honey flavoured chocolate near Munnar Kerala, and I had already tasted a few other flavours by then, but the last one with honey was simply too strong and slightly more harmful for my health than the rest- possibly due to the honey being from some strange source than what I was used to previously. And that sugar rush or whatever else the honey did wasn't too good.

Also for lunch Swati Snacks is a popular gujarati restaurant in Ahmedabad that specializes in serving traditional snacks and sweets. The restaurant is known for its panki chatni - a savoury rice pancake steamed between banana leaves.

I hope you try a traditional gujarati thali while you are in Ahmedabad. There are many good places such as Rajwadu, Vishala, Agashiye to name a few.
