Something to keep in mind about wiring: you need to have the big negative wire from the battery bolted to the engine, preferably using a star washer for good metal-to-metal bite contact.. The engine needs that connection in order for the starter, and distributor/coil and spark plugs to have a ground return to complete the circuit when the +12 volts is applied from the ignition switch. The chassis-frame of the car also needs to be grounded to the black negative wire from the battery at some point along its path. Some things like gas tank sending unit, dome light, horns use the chassis as a ground return to complete a circuit. Also the fuse box needs to be 'hot' with +12 volts present at least on one side of some of the fuses. There is usually one big wire from the fuse box going out to the battery +12 volts connecting somewhere around the hot side of the solenoid or a terminal block. The ignition switch sends +12 volts to the rest of the fuses when it is turned to on or in accessory position. You need both of those +12 volts sources to be at the fuse box. You could study one of the 'good' 60 fords and poke with your test lite and write down a few notes and sketches so you will have a better idea of what youre looking at in your project car. Hope this helps! 😀😀 Keep working at it , you'll figure it out.

Ya there is supposed to be a big black wire that goes from the starter to the right side of the solenoid but there is no flywheel or starter. Also the coil ain't on the engine does it has to be hooked up for lights? My test light broke but before it did It light up on some stuff like the dome light switch and on one of the lights for the instrument cluster the test light the light bulb lit up. I'm wondering if its a ground thing. I have the negative cable on the alternator bracket which it is from factory. I think you have found the answer. Thanks so much for the information. 😁 It has been a big pain

@@Tannerrebuilds No the engine dont need to be grounded if your not running it, but the chassis-frame ground connection may have been disturbed or disconnected if it was connected to the engine for its ground return - negative connection. You might follow that out and make sure the chassis-frame is connected to the - negative side of the battery somewhere, just to be sure. another little thought is usually there is a horn relay on a lot of old cars because the switch on the steering wheel isnt big enough to carry the high current that a set of horns draws, so they used the steering wheel button to energize a much heavier relay to blow the horns.(same as the starter solenoid is used to carry the heavy current the starter draws, the ignition switch controls the solenoid.) well, its a pain til you learn, youre learning now and have a good 'lab project' to experiment with and learn all about it. yep, a lot of those old cars had the ground connection on the alternator bracket.

@@LarryOdham ya there is a horn relay by the horns. Is the negative cable supposed to be on the body of the car it's on the engine. Also the power cable from the fuse box to the voltage regulator was grounding on the body I think bc the test light lit up when I put it on it. But now I think of it it sounds like everything needs a ground but it doesn't have any. Ya like you said its no fun when you don't know about it but when you figure it out it's kinda fun

@@Tannerrebuilds well, if you can ground your test light alligator clip to the body of the car and touch the probe end to a hot wire and it lights up, then the body is grounded to the battery -negative terminal as it should be, its connected somewhere! the body ground is probably ok. you can cross that off the list probably.

@@LarryOdham ya I put the test light on the engine and the point of it to the body and lights up
