Pure Nickel Blues are all I ever use, I discovered them by accident about 20 years ago and loved them. Now everything else just sounds wrong on my guitars. Definitely their own vibe that isn't for everyone, but the sound and feel really stands out to me.

Feel, tone and longitivtiy! Great strings. Two tips, bend 90 degrees the end with pliers before cutting them and raise the pickups a smidgen, half a turn of each screw, as they have slightly less magnetic pull.

Forgot to mention, the tone settles in after about a week and it stays that way for a long time.

Cool tip with the pickup height. Makes sense!

I used to loooooooove these on LP's. Only ever had one bad string in which I believe the core came loose from the winding. Follow their directions stringing them up and you'll have zero issues. No one will ever, ever, EVER confuse these with bright strings LOL! Pure nickel strings are considerably more mellow.

DR Blues. Oh yes. They are lovely and slightly costly where I come from but for what it's worth, they are awesome strings and proper.

I remember back in 85 or so when I got my hands on a Flying V somebody I knew had with the softest silky-smooth strings I had ever felt on it. They were effortless to play with as compared to any other guitar I had ever picked up. Wish I remember what they were but for some reason I think they had silver in/on them. Dude who owned it was kicking out some fantastic Randy Rhodes on that sweet bright white with black side and dark wood neck V.

Generally tight wires on the strat, pure blues on a lp style. Perfect tones and DR's last three times longer than any other strings I have tried.

Very cool. Something I figured out the hard way was the bigger the string the less bright or more bass or whatever you want to call it even at pitch. I had my LP Jr with 10s and put 12s and dropped it two hole steps. I thought man that's bassy. Which I expected at two hold steps down, then I tuned to pitch and about killed myself pressing them and bending with leads and they were still very bass like. There was a video by Rick Beato about EVH using 9 to 42 to get the brown sound and it did work with all things being equal with brown settings on amp, pickups, etc, against heavier strings. So I'm back to using the 9s, but now using 46 on top. I think it helps with crunch even at pitch. Those sound great. ♥️🤘♥️ I want to try those cobalt strings I think by Ernie ball. My local gas station / small music store doesn't have them so next time I order off of reverb I'll get them.. Great video. Those PAFs sound great sir. A Duncan SH5 in the bridge would be kler in that I bet. 😂. I like a beefed up PAF tone. It and the DiMarzio SD I think are my go-to pickups anymore that I know will work no latter what guitar I put them in... Very cool brother. I will try them. ♥️🤘♥️ Be safe and well... Oh. If you've not tried the colbalt strings everyone tells me they have a great feel and bend easier and sound great. ♥️🤘♥️ Take care brother.. ♥️🤘♥️

I've been using DR's forever - Tite Fits, I think. They have a bit more bite and zing, but are stil phat! 11-50's on Les Pauls, and 9's or 10's on Wolfgangs and Strats ...

Round core is awesome, so slinky smooth. But their propensity to unravel is legitimate. This is the likely origin of acoustic players having extra string at their peghead; to prevent the round-core strings from unraveling. Generally you can go up a gauge and have the same feel; maybe not necessarily the same tension, but man are they worth it :)

I've been using pure nickel/round core strings for centuries from another manufacturer (Pyramid)! But, generally speaking nickel will have a darker/warmer tone compared to steel or monel. I'm not too keen on overly bright strings due to the fact that they can make your guitar or bass sound "tinny". Even the flats I use are pure nickel with round cores! But, I needed a replacement string a couple of days ago ASAP, so I went to the store and bought a couple sets of DR Pure Blues due to the fact I've tried them many years ago and I knew they were relatively similar to my personal choice of strings.

Yeah I figured they'd have a brighter tone as well. They sound good to me however, but what do I know I'm a bassist lol.

I used Pure Blues almost exclusively since 2006 or so. Darker/fatter tone. I believe it has slightly less output because nickel is less ferrous than steel, thus it has less interaction with your pickup's magnetic field.

I haven’t used the DR Pure Blues for a number of years now, been using a custom set from Stringjoy.. I like the pure nickel, a much mellower sound.

I can't hear a difference in this video. But, I'm about to try DR Pure Nickel / Round Core on my Suhr with stainless frets to perhaps reduce the "zing". We'll see....

I used to use Pure Blues for years up until I had 3 high e strings in a row(all I had on hand and I had to get more strings) come loose from the ball when I was putting the strings on. I went back to slinkys. Does anyone know if this was a thing and fixed by now, it's been at least 3 or 4 years, or was it just a fluke? I always liked the strings.

What’s your take on stainless steel strings? they don’t get much press. I’ve recently started putting stainless strings (Rotosound) on guitars I don’t play as often just so they don’t degrade the same as nickel. Can’t make my mind up on any tonal differences apart from a weaker output imo. Anyone else using SS strings?

Hated these strings. The G sounded like a Sitar string. I thought they sounded tinny and weak, with too much top end.
