Trying out the Caran d'Ache NEOPASTELS oil pastels // Painting white lilies

Күн бұрынGiving the Caran d'Ache Neopastel oil pastels a proper try. This painting took me about six hours to complete, but I'll blame the fact that I haven't used oil pastels much and still need more practice to become proficient and efficient!
That said, it was six hours of joy as these pastels are so lovely to work with. I used a couple of Sennelier oil pastels here and there, but not much. And a blending stump, q-tips, and Prismacolor Premier colored pencils to help me with either blending or adding details.
I love how colorful the final painting is.

They are a dream compared to all the other brands I've tried so far, Sennelier included (because they are so soft that details are very tricky).

WOW! You've gotten so good, so fast, at oil pastels! I am really getting an itch to try them out thanks to your videos, but I'll wait until my upcrate arrives just in case I get lucky and find some magically inside lol. I did receive 3 sennelier oil pastels in an upcrate a long while ago and they were fun - exactly like painting with lipstick. And happy Easter to you and your family. I hope you have a wonderful holiday (if it is a holiday there? It is a minimum 4 day weekend here in Australia with schools closing for 1-2 weeks).

Thank you Chris, the Neopastel do the job on their own, I simply held them in my hands, hehe! That's how lovely they are. The Sennelier are very different. Super creamy, as you mentioned, but maybe a bit harder to add details and many layers. They are beautiful, but to use differently. Easter here is a holiday too, but only on Sunday, unlike for the rest of the world, hehe!

Beautiful! Would it be possible to turn off the autofocus, because it keeps preferring focusing on your hand, not the paper?

How do you get the coloured pencils to lay down with the pastel on the paper as well?

Beautiful! Do you think oil pastels can be done on watercolor paper like canson xl?

Thank you. Yes, they can be used on any kind of paper as long as it's not too thin.

I’m very very new to oil pastels. I noticed you sometimes use a pencil to get fine lines..can I ask what kind of pencils are they? Are they pastel pencils or normal oil based pencils ? Love your videos ❤

I use the Prismacolor Premier colored pencils for the details from time to time. It's very helpful.
