Enjoy this video of me testing out/making color swatches of these Cotman paints, and doing just a little bit of color mixing! I'd love to make a fuller length video creating a painting using just these colors if that would interest anyone, it's fun to paint with a limited palette like this and see just how many interesting colors you can get! This set was the FIRST watercolor kit I ever used, so this felt a little bit like coming home. I forgot how much I enjoyed some of these colors! Enjoy!

I bought a set of these 30 years ago and the colours do not fade. I used them in holland. They are a bit limited in colour choice but still good enough. Great video and art work.

Oh wow! I was told Cotmen paints fade after a bit. So that’s awesome to know. I got some professional tubes, so if I do want a pan set, I may consider getting the cotmen pan set to save money.

This is one of my favorite travel palettes from Winsor/Newton, which is pretty inexpensive, too. Since each color/paint cake is wrapped individually, I simply filled each pan with my tubes of professional grade paint. Remember to use the pans that come with this palette, b/c other, empty 1/2 pans typically won't fit into the slots. I think I own 4-5 assorted Winsor & Newton palettes, because they do offer palettes to suit most needs. Thank you for showing this nice watercolor palette, it's a great choice, imo!

Oh wow, what a great idea! I just took my 2nd Michael's class with Shaeleen and I have to squeeze out my professional paints on a palette beforehand, kind of guessing how much we'll use. I have made tons of pan sets, I don't know why I didn't think of that. Thank You!

I am just starting out in watercolor and this is the set I bought. I figure if I decide that I don't like to watercolor (not sure how that could happen) then I'm not too far out of pocket. Your voice is very soothing and your artwork is gorgeous. You've earned a new sub.

I have these paints in a similar WN travel set. It was my first set. I dug it out tonight and gave it a good play. Thank you for posting this video I would love it if you would do color mixing with the rest of the colors in the set. I learned a lot on just this one.

I love your review Shealeen, What cotman brush are you using ? A size 6 Cotman ? and the clear tray you mix on, is that a glass tray of some kind or a craft mat you can buy ? Thanks x

I love Cotman watercolors. I use them more than my professional Artists watercolors. I use them a lot for field sketches and my fashion drawings. I use the white mostly for mixing skin tones. But I have use the white mixed with other colors. Sometimes I use it as white. But not as often. They have a good lightfast quality. Even though they are student grade. I would say more like amateur artist paints. I know it’s not really a category but they are too good to be student, and the price is right.

What's funny is that Cadmium Yellow shows me that I would hate Gouache. lol It's opacity annoys me, but I still use it very sparingly.

Hi! In my pallete the blues were Ultramarine and Intense, not Phthalo Blue, but Im from Argentina, dont know if they change it depending where you buy it.

I've got the same set, but instead of the Pthalo Blue, there's something called Intense Blue. Not sure if there's any difference, as I haven't any Pthalo Blue to compare.

I just bought the 24 full pans set, and I have a big problem with it, everytime I draw, there are like VERY hard edges all around, does anyone know how I could stop that?

Yes! I would use a damp brush and gently smooth those hard edges out! Sometimes that’s a look watercolorists like, I generally try to avoid it! Using less water as you paint will help you avoid those hard edges. :)
