A follow up to the video that I made about greasing my Harbor Freight trencher. I was not happy with the grease needle that I used and purchased a couple of different tips to try. A long needle nose dispenser tip as recommended by a subscriber wound up working best for me.

Thanks for clearing that up because in your first video that needle is a nightmare ! it bends, it breaks, and you cant get it off you needle gun to save your life. I took it back so many times advance auto won't let me exchange it no more . This seems like a better solution.

I have finally started drilling them out, tapping the holes and switching to standard grease fittings. Never seen fittings like this before. They should include the adapter with the machine. Thanks for watching.

I wound up going with a different tip in the end. Have started drilling and taping the pins to use regular pins now as the stock type are a pain and make a mess with any of the aftermarket tips. Thanks for watching.

I did my homework on this after buying my HF backhoe. Use the right tip, such as the Alamite Z737, do not shove a needle into it, how can the spring not get bent? Zerks and this type of fittings open from the pressure of the grease, not by pushing the ball with the tool. I got one on ebay for $8.

On newer videos I showed switching to the pews tip but now I have started drilling and tapping the pins for standard fittings like all my other equipment uses. Thanks for watching.

Use a rigid too when using needles instead of the flexible hose...

I would recommend getting a Milwaukee cordless grease gun I have the 12v model works nice

Thanks for posting your informative and helpful videos. I know this is unrelated however I have the HF trencher on order and am wanting to build a thumb for it before it arrives and cant seem find the size/width of the boom extension tubing. Can you or someone take time to measure and post it for me.

I have also started a thumb for mine. Just got sidetracked with my kitchen. Next time I go out in the shop I will measure it.

3.16 x 3.15 tubing. Must be metric.

Hey do you think you could drill and tap those holes in the pins and then thread in a zerk for greasing?

Yes, I plan on getting one of these in the future and am soaking up all the information I can about them before hand to make sure its a good deal. One of the things I have seen as a problem is the difficulty of greasing these pivot pins and that they wear out really fast and easy because people can't grease them, but then I was watching you do this video and thought you probably could drill and tap it and thread in a zerk. I have been a long time subscriber of yours, before the Harbor Freight backhoe videos. Thanks for putting up the videos on this machine! Really enjoy the channel.

I would take all of the pins out and thread them to accept a grease fitting. But that's just me. lm kinda of a do it once the hard way, and do it the easy way from then on guy.

I thought about that, but for now the pin greaser works pretty good. some day I may just pull one out and throw it in my lathe to see if there is enough material to counterbore them so the threaded zerk would remain flush.Thanks for watching my video.

I almost wish you could just thread a regular grease zert into those pins that need to use a pin greaser. The problem with a regular grease zert is that theres a chance that it could get broken off while digging. Great video!!!

The long pin works pretty good and is not hard to use. As you say standard zerk fittings could catch on something and break off so I guess it is why they used the flush ones. The long pin will also be good for applying grease to hard to reach spots on other equipment so having a second gun is no big problem. Thanks for watching.

No. They don't even show the right tip to use. I found a different version that works better but am changing over to standard fittings Thanks for watching.
