Trying STRANGE Finnish snacks for the first time 😱 | some of them should be forbidden!

On our last day in #finland we have received a bag full of strange snacks to try! We thought we have to try them together with you guys!
Please be informed that none of our reactions are meant to insult anybody - taste buds develop differently and you get used to certain taste profiles over time...even if it's sometimes hard to believe 😂
We both hate Liquorice - and guess what...almost 50% of this items had some liquorice in it 😅

All of the Jenkki gums are flavored with xylitol. That is where the sweetness comes from, and it's good for your teeth (backed by many scientific studies). Xylitol gum was originally invented in Finland.

You have to mix it. And use parsley with onions(more onions!). Pirkka organic hernekeitto without meat is best! And the best mustard is that same mustard but green version it's more mild and dont covered the taste.

The "Gifu" is actually "Sisu" just written in old fashioned letters. And I suppose the sweetness there also comes from xylitol. :)

To elaborate on this, it's written in the german fraktur style that has fallen massively out of favor worldwide.

Salmiakki is a specific kind of liquorice that has been flavored with ammonium chloride. It's kind of "the" thing in Finland, but for some reason many foreigners dislike it. Must be an acquired taste. I'd give the Fazer salmiakki chocolate a solid 10/10. :D If a product only says "liquorice"/"lakritsi" on it, it's not salmiakki but only regular liquorice. :)

And the brown stuff in the middle of the Tyrkisk peber lollipop was ammonium chloride powder. Really good. ;)

@@incollectio Mostly right but little correction to that "brown stuff", it's actually Licorice Powder mixed up with a TINY amount of ammonium chloride and sugar. Ammonium chloride is such a potent stuff that it's used in really small quantities ( It literally corrodes metal and concrete floor with time ). It's also used in "Salmiak sugar" which is small amount Ammonium chloride mixed up with sugar and that's the "salt" that coats the super salty Salmiakkis.

@@radikaali Oh, cool, didn't know that. You should update the English Tyrkisk peber Wikipedia page, as that is where I got my info. It appears the Finnish page gives more accurate info on this, in line with what you said.
