Getting a Gtube is not the end of the world. You can use the feedings to supplement him eating by mouth. Of course it's reversible too. I suggest a Mic-Key button because it is much more compact and he won't have a tube hanging out of him. I feel for you, so much going on! I have 2 special daughters around 30 now so I've been doing this a while. Sometimes I wish the one that doesn't have a feeding tube did when she won't eat or drink. It would make giving meds much easier too! Hang in there! Make sure you make dates with your hubby.

You are such a gift from God!!! Literally all of your videos come at a time when I need them! We have been battling with literally the same thing with my 2.5 year old son! It's so hard!!! Because of your video I was able to message my son's pediatrician and ask him if AFRID may be what he has!!! I am praying for everything that you are dealing with!! It's so much! Just know you are not alone! Most of us are going through these things right along with you! It's so nice to have people that just get it! No one in my family really understands any of this!

I was nervous for my son to get the g tube but so glad I did. I’d say one of the easiest surgeries you can recover from. My son woke up and they started with ensure immediately. He didn’t seem like he was in any pain. He’s nonverbal. We do 3 ensures a day. Unless he eats a good meal then I’ll skip that ensure. He still eats by mouth. I do all his meds thru the tube now so he doesn’t have to taste it. It has worked out so good for us. He has gained 40 plus pounds. If you decide to go thru with it, the process was so easy for us. Good luck

I’m so scared of my son waking up from surgery and not understanding and placing my hand on the area wanting me to make it go away or fix it and me not able to, that is my biggest fear I break down over that thought every time we have a g tube surgery scheduled with a close call and I do everything I can to keep him off it for that reason but idk if that is the best necessarily. I just can’t imagine him being let down thinking I just put a hole in his belly and won’t fix it

My 4 yr old has had a G-tube for over a year, it was scary at first, but it’s really not a big deal after about a week and get it all figured out! You can do this! It’s nice if the kid gets sick because then you can still keep them hydrated… it’s a blessing. Whatever you decide, do what’s best for your child. ❤️

Quick tip Steph: for flavored water, chop up strawberries & mix them with a little water & Splenda- then let that sit for a day in the fridge. After that, add them to either water or pink lemonade. Both are delicious

Liam reminds me so much of my son-My son 4.5 is on an all liquid diet through a bottle, he was below 3rd percentile in weight at one point, but pediasures have bulked him out. We had a g tube surgery scheduled in January when he stopped drinking completely. I was force syringe feeding him Pedialyte and had 1 more week for him to start drinking again on his own or he was getting the surgery done, and it was 3 days shy of him getting the g tube when he finally began drinking on his own again. I am really hoping we can get him eating food one day, or at least drinking from something beyond a bottle

I am literally about to start the syringe pedialyte with my child… he has completely stopped taking a bottle because his nip that he was attached to broke.. he had to go the hospital for Iv fluids and I am ready to do whatever I can to help my kid

@louderthanwordsInclusivity Жыл бұрын
@@virginiadolly8913 we had to do this when my son stopped drinking from his bottle as well, he got to the point where he would even gag himself after to make himself vomit it up, and we had to restrain him, it was all so traumatic for him and broke my heart, but the alternative was a g tube surgery. We were able to keep him barely above the level before needing ivy fluids and 2 days before his scheduled g tube surgery he began drinking again thank god. Sometimes a g tube is necessary, but if it can be avoided safely for our kids who already struggle with sensory aversions, then it is a win. I hope all goes wel, for y’all, I’m so sorry y’all are experiencing this ❤

I just wanted to say good on you Mama. I know sometimes it would seem strange to be happy your child is drinking a bunch of sugary juice, but IMO you are so doing the right think. I have ARFID and there are times I eat the junk food or id just starve. Its incredible that you are just letting him do what he needs. I got forced to try to eat a lot when I was younger and it was traumatizing.

I am half an hour late, so have missed the live. Even if he has to get the feeding tube, he probably will grow and learn to feed himself without the tube later. I know a person on the spectrum who was too little to be a normal age school beginner because he was so underweight and the doctor was worried, he could not carry his school bag. He had feeding problems into his teens, and refused to chew food until late. He preferred pureed, and not even chunks were tolerated.

Oh gosh does Argos cause kidney stones? My son has it too and is on an all liquid diet of pediasure but goes through periods where I have to force syringe feed him pedialyte if he stops drinking~ are kidney stones something we should worry about?
@aliciabratton3832
@aliciabratton3832 2 жыл бұрын
I think it’s from my son making himself dehydrated from restricting liquids so much. My son also over salts his food, and combining that with the lack of adequate fluids caused his stone. He has another that hasn’t moved yet. I never suspected that it could happen in a young kid. I’m in an ARFID support group on FB and a couple other parents commented that this kids had kidney stones- I don’t think it’s common tho! Positive vibes to you and your little!

I was late but just let me say my son would not eat. We did ABA, however, it sounds more medical than Autism although kids on the spectrum do regress. Your son is in my prayers. My son never needed a g-tube, but it was a scary time for us and I am sure you may be dealing with these feelings. It will be okay Mom.

Autism in my family and my career. I've ran across ASD folks that don't like to eat at a table with people because there is too much sensory input. So we/they put out healthy snacks in a couple places where they can see them and that they can grab whenever they want.

She got started on iron and injections for the b12 and the first evening after an injection she was eating 5 meatballs and spagetti like she had never seen food before. She is still not eating well and we have diagnosis for ARFID, but she is not loosin weight anymore.

My son's walking ended sooner after his heel cord surgery when he was 14 years old. The surgery was just too much pain for him and ultimately he just didn't have enough strength to do the physical therapy after healing from the surgery. Side note, my son does have Autism, ADHD and Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy which is possibly the reason why the heel chord surgery ultimately did not work for my son in prolonging his walking. Praying that everything goes well for Noah and you guys. 💚💚

I’d actually argue the opposite of what the surgeon said. Our 12 year old has a gtube and has actually eaten more since he got it because he doesn’t feel the pressure anymore. Don’t get me wrong, he’s still not eating much but it’s more than before. I know over a dozen families who have experienced the same thing. While there are potential issues with the gtube, maintenance and what not is super easy. We’ve learned so many tricks over the years that has made it take very little time to prep and clean up each feed.

I wonder if it had anything to do with Lex having them. Maybe it was a combo of Lex having the special drink, nobody trying to get Liam to drink the juice but it just being around, and him being able to grab it on the go. I wonder if Liam will try to take any other drinks or snacks left around especially for Lex?

Lol 😂 Do you think maybe he just likes the straw, I mean I don’t know have you tried other juices with the little straws like the apple juice boxes and the yahoos etc.? Also they make refillable pouches with straws in the shape of Capri Suns on Amazon or maybe he would possibly enjoy that. Just a thought also just curious does he have a favorite food would he eat the same things over and over again I know Johnathyn will eat macaroni for breakfast lunch and dinner if I allow him to and sometimes we got to do what we Gotta do to make sure our kids eat even if it’s the same thing. 😂 wasn’t trying to pry just trying to be helpful I love your channel and your journey 💕💕💕

If you want something less invasive you could ask GI about an NG tube. My daughter stopped eating/drinking two years in a row at the exact same time of year. It’s super odd and we still don’t understand why. But the first time it happened she got an NG tube (because it’s not as invasive as a g-tube) and she started eating in one month and also trying new foods she had never eaten before. So she got the NG tube out in about 4 months. The second time it happened she got an NG tube and now she’s had it in for 8 months. We are still trying to figure it out, get her the help she needs, and get some answers.

If you water down his drinks, he is getting limited calories and could be why he is also losing weight. In addition, too much liquids can cause the opposite effect and dehydrate. Obviously your doctor will know best but I was surprised they said to water down instead of add liquids.
