Hi, we are Harriet and Mauro and in February 2021 we bought an abandoned smallholding in Castellón, Spain. In these videos we share our life as we restore and improve our little stone house, learn to grow and preserve our own food, and bring our 4 acres of farmland back to productivity.

That's a great point! I had vision issues and went straight to the doctor's and they couldn't find anything, just told me to eat something as my blood pressure was low - but it was only an ocular migraine thankfully (I had to work that out myself!). I didn't think of more serious causes, and I should have. Everyone should be aware!

Heavens, you are really wonderful to be able to count your blessings after such a difficulty! I'm sorry about Mauro's detached retina. As soon as I saw the thumbnail I had to fast-forward to find out what happened. I was eyeing every tree branch and sharp tool with suspicion. Little Santi looks precious, the tile floors look beautiful, and the lemon yoghurt made my mouth water!

My sister had a detached retina and she struggled with the healing process. Her skin started to chap from having to lay face down for so long. (A heavy cream helped.) She listened to a lot of audiobooks during that time. It got boring but there wasn’t much else to do but be still And rest her eye.

Un abrazo muy fuerte para Mauro. Hope the period of head down takes. Several years ago I had a similar problem, agujero macular and had to spend 5 days and nights like that. Not fun. There’s going to be a short period of no heavy lifting or work which really sucks but you can always place Santi gently on his chest for snuggles. ❤ to you all.

You could get one of those camping shower bags to heat when the sun is out. I grew up with a combustion oven which heated our hot water and when th fire went out we boiled a kettle so we could have a bucket bath. Sorry to hear about Mauro's eye problems. Hope you recover quickly Mauro, God speed your recovery.

The under the stair area can also be a perfect play area for Santi once he becomes more mobile. Put a play kitchen or activity station there (and you could still use the upper area for shelving). I hope Mauro's eye and shoulder will heal soon ❤. I really enjoy your updates. We would love to come visit and help out. Have you thought about welcoming more helpers on your homestead?

Harriet! Just line those baskets with cardboard or flexible plastic sheet shaped into a cylinder and just place inside, or fasten. Shaped wire even? Instant stand up baskets. Prayers for Mauro and for a super positive change of luck!
