Damn those sounds bring me back. To this day one of the best play swords out there. The way it "clanged" when you bought a swing to an abrupt stop made playing solo against an imaginary monster so perfect

fantastic job - this was always such a gem of a toy - I remember in 1989-1990 I had wanted this one SO badly and my mom got me a cheaper orange knockoff, which actually looked pretty cool but broke quickly. I had a friend with this one and I was so jealous - the Mattel toy commercial was exactly what every kid imagined in their bedrooms and made me want it even more to defeat Skeletor.

The good old days before surface mount electrical components. I love how this repair did not require a high degree of electronics knowledge and instead you could fix it with just your years of experience with moving parts like the switches. This show people they might be able to do a similar fix without the need of an oscilloscope! :)

That's great feedback JC. When I first started the channel I expected all the repairs to be simple like this but quickly had to learn a lot more than I envisaged. When I was a kid in the 80s and being a big Star Wars fan (of course) I always wanted a Lightsaber, so one Christmas I opened a present and got what was basically a blue torch with a long plastic hollow frosted tube, a complete fake knock off version but still, my sister also got one of these and she was not even a Star wars fan, of course being kids we beat the hell out of each other and everything in epic Lightsaber battles usually until the plastic tube gave in and flew out of the plastic collar that held it in place, then fixed we continued, great memories, oh we had to make the sounds as the, well torches did not.
@RetroTechRepair
@RetroTechRepair 2 жыл бұрын
What a great story. If I got anything like that it was always a bad knock off (usually from the market) or something broken from a jumble sale. That's actually part of why I started the channel , so I could actually own some of this kind of stuff. Shame my sister wasn't a but closer in age we might have found sword fights therapeutic. Anyway thanks so much for your awesome comment. Glad I was able to bring back some fond memories.

Excellent repair Roger! My first thought when you lifted the lid to the sensor box was, swap the springs! Great minds eh?😉 Your video editing is really top notch. Adding the "what happened previously" is a stroke of genius, leading new subscribers to your previous videos. Nice to see you get more subs. Maybe you could see if Vince needs any help with a fix on his Rolls 😉 Thanks for another great video
@RetroTechRepair
@RetroTechRepair 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Matthew. Great minds do think alike. Glad you enjoyed the video and recognise the editing. It's my least favourite part of the process and sometimes the reason I don't get vids out as I love to repair. I have been trying to improve it. Vince's Roller is awesome, I am enthralled by that series. He just keeps plugging away at it's really coming along. I have worked on hobby cars in the past (Lancia Y10 turbo, Porsche 944 turbo, Saab 9000 turbo, Reliant Scimitar SST Turbo... spotting a theme?) but I no longer have space to work on cars and could never get close to putting that stuff on youtube. It was actually the absence of cars to work on that got me repairing electronics in the first place. Anyway thanks for the comments and patience waiting for the vids to come. Really appreciate it. Roger
@matthewbeeson5612
@matthewbeeson5612 2 жыл бұрын
Now that's an impressive car back catalogue! The Lancia Y10 turbo was such a cool hot hatch, very rare. So is the Reliant SST, had to Google that one but I do remember it! Can you believe they planned a V8 version for the USA?! Shame you don't have space to do a car restoration series, I'd watch it for sure.
@RetroTechRepair
@RetroTechRepair 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks @@matthewbeeson5612 I didn't know they'd planned a V8 that would have been scary. Less impressive was my success rate. Only the 944 and Saab got finished. I sold the Y10 to make room for the Scimitar then emigrated to the USA and left it behind. I'm back in the UK now but the car's long gone.
