I think the reason everyone was mad at Vanessa is that her argument was that people die every day so we shouldn't try to prevent as many COVID deaths as possible and it went borderline into masking and social distancing is unnecessary territory. It was also just really tone-deaf to the privilege she has where she has the ability to choose to social distance and/or mask but there are so many of us essential workers who need to do that to survive because we can't just stay home.

I think a lot of people misunderstand the Demi situation. The issue they had wasn't to do with options being sugar free, but the fact they they were marketed as "guilt free". That type of marketing teaches impressionable children that you should feel guilty after eating certain foods and validates the disordered thoughts of people w EDs. (regardless, I don't think Demi should have sent their fans to attack the small business)

I feel ashamed that the first KZfaqr that I've subscribed to its Shane Dawson (over 10 years ago). I was in middle school I think and at the time I had no idea about the history of Black people in the US (or anywhere else for that matter) and I was hardly above intermediate level. I don't really blame myself for liking him at the time because I couldn't really understand the connotations but it will always be something that I'm ashamed of.

I was in an eating disorder treatment facility when the whole Demi issue broke out, and we talked about it in one of the therapy groups. Everyone there understood Demi's side because we had went through the same thing. The issue is how the froyo was labeled "guilt free" playing into diet culture's obsession with thinness over health. Honestly it's insensitive to say they "overreacted" or it's "stupid" when you don't understand what people with ED's really go through :/ it's literally not your place to cancel someone over this. Sam and Ryan, just like I wouldn't loosely speak on your depression & anxiety or make ridiculing comments, I would appreciate if you could show the same respect to people suffering from EDs.
