I don't think simplicity or complexity of Finnish plays a part here, since "lasta" meaning 2 different things is merely a coincidence. It's a bit like an "I scream for ice cream" thing but with the exact same letters, making the words look the same.

Yeah i think it would be important to learn the most used word order even though people can understand you no matter what way you put it it would still sound weird to others by saying it in that order

Word order has next to zero importance in Finnish. At the level Dave is at least. No reason to stress about it, or let it prevent you from speaking! :) You can express nuances with word order, but everybody WILL understand your question as long as you have the right question word (mikä, missä, minne ect.) and preferably the right endings too.

Also, the subject can be dropped if it's implied by the rest of the sentence.

@@akumjh Verb form to be precise. It's even recommended to do so unless it's third person (singular or plural) or mean to emphasize. However, there is one tiny thing in this that's common in so many languages. First word in a sentence must be capitalized. So if it's giving you a list of words to be put in you really should start with one that is capitalized.

Yeah, there are still a lot of mistakes in Duolingo's Finnish course.

The word order matters usually: Missä on vessa? = Where is A bathroom? Missä vessa on? = Where is THE bathroom?

To be honest, in spoken Finnish it wouldn't even be out of place to hear 3rd person plural (pro)noun + singular verb. I know that's how I speak at least lol. Either way, yeah, it's good to know the rules before you go breaking them.

13:14 you were right on that one. Like with previously, you don't need the "Minä" at start when the word "opiskelen" has n at the end. It already tells it's about you.

Actually, even in spoken language, people often say "mä opiskelen", even though they could just say "opiskelen". So, there's nothing "horrible" about those particular sentences. But I agree with the "se on seinässä" one - you need to know the context to be able to translate that "correctly".

I would assume the context for the seinä was provided in the lesson he skipped, lol

I also got worked up over that "se on seinässä" sentence. In most cases, you would have to assume it means "It is in the wall." unless the words 'pistoke' (plug) or 'johto' (cord) immediately precede it in the same context.

Both are correct but this definitely looks unnatural. Whereas words ending -lainen, for example tuonlainen, look better written together.

​@@Blirre According to KOTUS, -lainen and -läinen are usually written attached to pronouns, but separated from nouns and proper nouns. Ie. "Minunlaiseni", but "Aleksis Kiven lainen". (although noting that more commonly "lainen" is replaced by "kaltainen" in the latter cases.)

Might be that just years abroad have maimd my grammar, but have a distinct memore of learning the following: "Onko sinulla kännykkää?" = Do you have a cellphone? (singular) "Oko teillä kännykkää?" = Do you have a cellphone? (plural) "Onko Teillä kännykkää?" = Do you have a cellphone? (singular, polite) Apparently called T-V distinction in English according to Wikipedia. Now that I think of it, the capital letter might just be a fabication of my mind or something.... none the less, it just makes things confusing if it's not explained at any point. Plus it's relatively rare these days anyways. Probably useful to learn, if you're a foreigner hearing it from servic people or so.

Te is used in a singular form when talking to a stranger, especially if they're older than you. Customer servants may use it too
