Thanks Marty!! I was recently at Guitar Center in Davenport Iowa checking out a new Taylor acouatic/electric and I got talking to a guy who was also checking out a new guitar, and he asked me how I learned to play. I don't own an electric guitar so I can't do electric guitar solos although sometimes I wish I could. For instance Pink Floyd's "Mother" is an acoustic song with an electric solo and NO you can'y substitute an acoustic solo for an electric without losing some MAJOR soul!

Okay so if you are using the G on the A string for your root, does this "box" stay complete as you move it to say a root of E on the A string? How about a D on the A string?

Think of the scale like a skeleton. It’s keeps the form, everything lines up and you’ll always sound “in key.” It’s when you master the scale and start building flesh around it the magic begins. Does that help?
