Resubmits my theory that Kinger's obsession with bugs is him originally being sent into the game to look for Programing Bugs. And I loved the connection between the beginning and end, with her nightmare having them say they don't even remember her name and how little they care about her, but the funeral at the end making her alter her understanding and see that no, she WOULD be missed, remembered, that she's not alone, that they're all stuck in this same situation and struggling but they all care about each other too! I'm sure she'll start connecting with the other human characters more after this.

My favourite theory about Kinger’s obsession with bugs is that he, and possibly Queenie, we’re beta testers for the Circus tasked with finding any bugs in the system

“Kinger’s *supposedly* been here the longest.” Jax said in the pilot. Then Ragatha was surprised that Kinger remembered her time in the circus in the beginning, supporting that he has a terrible memory recall. If the “Jax is an NPC” theory is true I think it’ll be given to us in breadcrumbs, like something as simple as Kinger not being able to remember when or how Jax joined could at first be played as a joke about his poor memory, but also serve as a clue that Jax never joined the circus like the rest of them did. And now knowing that if some NPCs can become sentient and have their perception of their world shattered, then maybe the same happened to Jax, and he decided to take matters into his own hands to avoid being trapped as nothing more than an NPC. But I dunno 🤷♀️

I disagree with the Jax npc theory since the creator confirmed he's 22 years old along with the age of the rest of them. I don't see them giving an npc an exact age.

To be fair, Caine was clearly speaking from experience. As in the Circus was probably a lot more populated before he accidentally deleted a player instead of an NPC.

Also probably explains why any non-story-important npc is given a generic doll looking body. Less chance of a stray npc hiding in the ranks when it’s clear what they are.

Game-wise, it probably would be a save point, even a hub where all the NPCs are at and are allowed to keep themselves from resetting or losing memories.

I think Gummigoo is an npc. It's just that the ai is now so advanced he became self aware. That might bite the crew in the ass when they realise considering how callous some of them are with the npcd

I thought Gumigoo was going to vaporize the moment he walked through the portal, the fact NPCs can come back the 'main' Circus does have interesting implications

Really makes it seem like Caine saying he wouldn't want any confusion. He might have changed or deleted a player before mistaking them for an NPC, and with how little difference there are between the two, both sentient, the idea of NPCs being deleted is terrifying in itself.

@@luna732 Yeah that seems very likely, I was mostly thinking about the fact that they can pass through the different sections the same (NPC or person) means that the entire digital landscape that they live in is arguably all the same digital landscape- while there are different maps/levels, it seems they all run off the same engine/code source (pomni even had a similar physics issue as the truck when she tripped over the block at the beginning of the ep) which implies to me there is either a section where their original selves are that would be inaccessible to NPCs as they are different matter entirely, or their living selves are still outside the circus but just plugged into it and forced to interact through their avatars

Pomni making peace with her nightmare makes me so emotional - the fact they have a funeral for Kaufmo proves that they’re still somewhat human, they care, and they care about Pomni. She knows that if she falls, she won’t be alone, and she has them (hi can you tell I like found family). Also Pomni offering to help Gummigoo feels like she’s trying to make up for leaving Ragatha in the pilot. Especially after her dream, she was afraid of being alone and found a friend in Gummigoo, only to realise that her circus family are still determined to help her and that she’s going to be okay. I really hope we see more happy Pomni with the gang in the next episodes :D

Apparently the Candy Princess' name is Loolilalu. Which, if you don't know Metal Gear Solid, la-li-lu-le-lo, it's basically (as in, I'm dumbing it down as much as possible) a code-phrase that's used to suppress information. Trying to explain the entirety of the Metal Gear plots and not sound insane is impossible. I don't know if it's a coincidence here or directly a reference with a play on words. With how it's going here, I don't know.

Here's an easier way to explain the la-li-lu-le-lo thing: MGS is a japanese video game before being translated to english. In japenese, there aren't consonants and vowels as individual characters. Instead, there are sets of characters that are the same consonant sound with every vowel sound, ex da di du de do. Additionally, and more well known, Japanese doesn't have separate R and L consonant sounds. Put together, La-li-lu-le-lo is used as a replacement for something secret, so secret that it gets censored even as you try to speak it, so secret the thing that replaces it is impossible to understand or write down (in japanese, since they simply lack the characters for it)

The way Gummigoo got removed in less than a second reminds me of Sir Pentious getting one shot by Adam. Well, technically, he's not dead. I mean he is an NPC, he can always come back in some shape or form. 20:19 But Caine's reaction makes me think that he's accidently deleted humans before. 💀

So I guess just search it yourself I searched "Digital Circus content warning Jax". To summarize it again basically Gooseworx replied with a content warning for the whole series. Out of the 11 warnings the 11th was just listed as "-Jax".

This episode was really hard to watch -_- seeing Pomni cracking and trying and failing to process everything when Cain Thanosed Gummigoo was gut wrenching... Justice for Gummigoo!

Gummigoo will come back and probably won’t remember Pomni at all… Also, to explain some stuff: the figurine thing is a reference to some people that will get 3D figurines of characters they like and do weird stuff with them, a whole lot of perverted stuff. If you watch the 3 minute short “Pomni wake up. It’s time to go on an adventure” you’ll see that they also reference that when promoting the Pomni and Caine figurines. (Gooseworx has also confirmed on Tumblr that Gangle is a weeb) And the “pow pow pow” that the other gummy guy was doing while skiing on the sand was a Pizza Tower reference! He wasn’t taking damage he was taunting/showing off. Like, “Ohhh I can do this while also spamming the taunt button.”

I could tell it was gonna happen but what really got me was Pomni’s reaction to it all. And then the wholesome(ish) funeral at the end which made her feel like she wasn’t expendable to these people (everyone minus Jax)

I think gummigoo is an NPC with human sentience implanted in the model. Like cane is mixing human and NPC which is why he can't tell them apart.

I kinda wonder if Pomni brought with her (or maybe even is) some sort of virus, because she seems to be around for A LOT of the bigger glitches. Even if it doesn’t happen directly to her, she always seems to be nearby when it happens. Or it could just be coincidental. Can’t wait to see more!

In regards to Jax, if you slow down his last appearance at the end, you’ll see a flash of sadness when they’re talking about the funeral, I think he is the character I’m most excited to see more of! In the pilot you can see they subtly animated human emotion but quickly masked it with his a-hole smile- absolutely brilliant animation omg

Man, I wanted a break from my feelings today too, but I guess life is just one big foot up the arse, huh? Edit: Also! I loved that momentary little flicker of genuine emotion on Jax's face as Zooble and Ragatha were talking about the arrangements for Kaufmo's funeral. I REALLY do think he cares underneath all the sarcasm and sardonic attitude, but he uses that facade to protect himself from...ACTUALLY feeling his feelings and forming attachments (even though it obviously isn't working, reference the aforementioned filcker of genuine emotion). I'm strongly looking forward to where they take his character!

i think something further cemented is the very child-like visual theme that’s present throughout the show so far. it definitely could ring as almost like the internet series trope of “nostalgic, colorful series is actually hiding a terrible secret” but i think it’s truly more intentional than that. like, the main cast aren’t just colorful and strange, they’re literally toys. ragatha is obviously a rag doll and kinger is the king piece from a chess set. i think beyond that though pomni could pass as a porcelain clown doll, zooble is a sort of mess of those shape toys, jax almost reminds me of this stretchy rabbit toy i’d had as a kid with his too-long arms and legs. gangle is the hardest for me to pin down but i think that’s mostly because they seem to be made up of just some ribbon and their mask, which, i mean, isn’t unlike an imaginative kids’ toy?? even caine is one of those teeth-chattery toys slapped on top of a ring leader’s suit. i wonder if that theme is meant to imply that the players are part of some larger game, but not as a captive audience, rather a sort of a cog in the machine as a whole. it may also imply that caine is not as omnipotent as he seems seeing as he also follows that theme.

i think when a human abstracts, which is how its been shown the other humans "die" in this realm that their consciousness is repurposed for the ais, i mean the day after kaufmo abstracts caine has an ai thats 57 times more immersive, i think caine realized that once abstracted their gone, so strings the left over chunks of mind for his npcs to keep the rest of the humans from meeting the same end

16:52 oh 100% he acts all cool and nonchalant but this is how he copes, he 100% is feeling just as much despair as everyone else. But the fact that he’s coping like this makes me question his age, like is he willfully immature or is he just a angsty teen. We only know the confirmed(ish) age of Pomni 100% being an adult but literally anyone could be any age and we have no solid proof one way or the other

5:59 idk if your gonna mention this in your theory crafting but I see it as everyone coping a different way (healthy or otherwise) Jax is detaching himself from this world in a similar way to how a lot of sims players would drown their sims in the pool or in rollercoaster tycoon. He sees even the real people as NPCs and holds no attachment to them, in a similar way as some keyboard warriors when your against someone in Fortnite. He sucks exponentially, but none of his assholery is without reason

The disparities between Gummigoo getting hurt and the others getting hurt could be bc of the setting. The candy world is "made up" but it's built on top of this map, which is probably considered more "real" than the "made up" candy world.

Ragatha is my favorite so far, not because she's so nice(though I do like that as well) but just because I feel like it is a coping mechanism/codependency and I get that feeling I'm gonna relate to her when she snaps or shows the depths of her hurt ;u; Despite how horrifying and depressing this show is its so comforting.

While caine deleting a player is an interesting proposition, I think the more interesting proposition is that an npc might be posing as a player, possibly someone from the past or maybe one of the current cast. just something interesting to think about

I think the guy hitting all the poses as he hit the rocks was a pre-programmed thing Can set up. Cause when we see all the assets fudge is among them, meaning the entire chase scene was designed by cane to end in the chocolate river. Any damage taken was goofy because rather than real damage it was a scripted even Cane devised for the players

If Cain did erase a player character on accident people are guessing jax but I guess kinger got erased on accident then Cain tried to put him back together or make him again which explains kingers jumbled memories half ai half human

I have my doubts about players being able to be deleted, because if they could, why wouldn't Caine just delete people who abstract (given that Gooseworks has confirmed is irreversible and it certainly doesn't seem like a pleasant existence) rather than tossing them into a cellar? Assuming hes actually a benevolent yet misguided AI, and not secretly a villain. Which also makes me skeptical of Gummygoo being a player, seeing as he DID get deleted, and also his model was included with the other NPCs in the devroom unlike the players.

Not to add to the NPC-Player spiral, but Caine said that he doesn't have control over the humans' minds, which makes me wonder why he would be able to delete them. Isn't deletion just one more type of file manipulation? Like you said, we don't have a strong enough grasp of the rules to make proper theories, but it is odd to me that Caine clearly has Issues surrounding mixing up humans and NPCs when, theoretically, it should be easy to test who's who by messing with their minds.

At some point they will return to the sweet kingdom for an adventure and princess candy will be the villain (something like God sent you to help and you released a monster that destroyed my kingdom (god is a lie and I will kill you)) I think Jax lost someone in the real world, and perhaps the personality of not caring about anyone is a way of dealing with what happened. looking forward to seeing more

If any of the main cast are AI my bet would be on Gangle. From what little we see of them they change personality based on the mask and either they are very dedicated to the bit or they are an AI programmed to have this difference Jax might know with the whole "You're supposed to be agreeable, aren't you" Comment. It could be a jab at Gangle, it is Jax. Or it could allude to Gangle being programmed to be that way.

What happened to Gummigoo kind of felt built up, so I kind of expected it. I think it would've surprised me if they kept him to the end so we're led to believe he made it, and then Caine pulls a Thanos in a later episode. But then the funeral wouldn't have been as impactful, ig.

I only checked this out because I saw you were reacting to it! I like it so far, some really dark implications with this one (which I like in a show), I wonder how much lore it will explore vs being like an adventure-of-the-week type show. Also, apologies If I have asked this before, but will you do reactions to Helluva Boss or Hazbin Hotel? A new episode of Helluva boss is coming out this month, and the clown motif reminds me of both series
