ITS WEANING DAY!
And if you know me, this is my least favourite job on the sheep farm.
HOWEVER...
Carissa is off school today, so her and Jess gave me a hand!
But, as good as actual weaning went, I ran into other unforeseen issues in the finishing barn.

Listen here young lady... I’m 65, not a homesteader, retired, etc., and I’m going to talk to you like a mom. You are worthy. You are interesting. You are important. You are a beautiful woman. You put out delightful and useful videos. The vast majority of viewers love you and want you to succeed. God is using you to take care of his creatures and educate others how to be humane. It’s all good, daughter. Keep on filming your daily routine, because it opens a new world for many of us! Love from North Carolina, born in Winnipeg.

Sandi, I am not a farmer. Never have been, never will be. However, every single time you share something, even it it's the 15th time I've watched you lambing, or shearing, or cleaning, etc., I learn something. I also like the frequent friendly check-ins from your life. Even though I will never meet you, I feel like this fulfills some need I have for social engagement. Thank you for all your time, effort, vulnerability and sharing your life.

I got the feels when you were talking about the “how many times” person. As a country girl that has moved to the city, the cycles of a farm signal the passage of time and seasons. For me, during this pandemic and lockdowns, you are reminding me that life is still normal, depending on ordinary schedules and that there is a continuance of time that never changes. You keep me grounded with your videos and I am sure others feel the same way. 💕💕💕

It’s also a spurious argument at odds with human nature. They say there are only 7 plots in fiction, and we’ve all consumed more than 7 TV shows, movies, or books despite this. So while lambing this time was comfortably familiar, it had unique drama like Noah’s story to keep us engaged.

Sandi, don't be hard on yourself, especially about showing us the same things, because there is always something slightly different. A different challenge of a different group. But I think it is extremely important that you show the repetitive and cyclative nature of farming. It isn't always new or exciting. It is hard labour!! I love watching all the different cycles you go through on the farm. Just like farming though, certain styles of youtube aren't for everyone. You provide plenty of new information while vlogging, and we all hope you keep it up!!

Hi, I'm from Australia and I haven't commented before but I want to say that you inspire me and my husband. We are seriously considering becoming new farmers. There is no one out there like you doing what you do on you tube, there are a couple that are similar, but you are unique in a very good way. I thank you for sharing your insight and experiences....On another note, sometimes people say the stupidest things for multitudes of reasons, from jealously to you not "fitting the mould" to a lack of emotional intelligence. At the end of the day, it says more about your friend than it does about you. Keep on going and don't even think on it again:)

I mean it’s one thing to just not watch, but to tell the person who makes the videos that they don’t want to see what they produce is heartbreaking. Upon further reflection I feel that your negative “friend” is possibly someone close to you who is overwhelmed by your energy/drive/ success/passion/accomplishments/preoccupations. They want to be in your life but not too close because it’s threatening... hence the negative snarkiness. Let them float out there at a “safe” distance. Other people close to you will gladly give you the approval and support you seek.

I had a stroke at the age of 36. I grew up on a farm, and it's in my blood. It's always been my dream to farm again. Due to circumstances, that dream might be a long time comin'. So I come watch your videos. My husband even knows. If I'm having a rough day, he'll tell me I need to "go watch your sheep lady videos", because something about what you do here, is so good for me. I grew up farming, and I know that it is a constant process of learning, failing, and failing better next time. It shifts and moves in a way that means you can never perfect the art. Farming is often about doing the same thing for the millionth time and still feeling that satisfaction of accomplishment. The great part is, even after that millionth time, something beautiful happens. It's the same, but it's never the same. So, if that 'how-many-times' person doesn't get, that is some issue on their part... let them keep that. It's harder to hear something negative from someone you know. But there is a whole chorus out here saying that we love what you do and we await your next video. If I were to sit in your truck and have a cuppa with you, I'd kindly tell you to take the pressure off. None of this needs to be forced. You aren't forced to make the videos. Anytime it is no longer serving you - quit. You have that right. And no one is forcing the rest of us to watch them. We do because we like what you're doing. If that changes, we can quit too. Take the pressure off. Skip the judgement. We see how much work you put into everything and admire you for that. You aren't letting anyone down. You are filming farming. It is what it is. And those of us who enjoy watching farming... we're here cheering you on.

Next time something gets so out of whack and crazy, just ask your self " in a hundred years, will any of this matter to anyone.......anyway?? I watch like a hawk for those teensy nuggets of wisdom to see if they might apply to my little bitty flock. You're hilarious. And loving. And generous. And tough. And frigging strong. And you have crazy long legs that can go over a fence panel like nothing haha (yes wishing for longer legs over here). You're brutal with your improvements. You're tender with your animals. I have been following you for over a year and have always seen you as a strong woman, moving mountains for the sake of the herd and therefore your business, your family and your friends. And of course you are. We certainly have our devils in our heads who criticize us, but don't let others add devils to them. If someone drops out because they have different expectations of your vlog, that is not about you and your vlog, but about the expectations of the person who drops out. Sandy, just continue with what you are doing and don't stop until you can't or don't want to. I hope that will take a long time. Greetings and love from Erwin from the Netherlands.

I know this is an ancient video in youtube terms so you probably won't see it but I do want to let you know that there are so many of us who support you. Some are city folk and townies who have never been within 10km of livestock much less worked with them. Your videos allow a peek into that life and help people understand how much goes into every little step. I love that you give glimpses into the other side of farming with crops when it's planting and harvest time with Mark. For other farmers, It's a look into how other people do the same general industry or a look into other farming types. I can't speak for others but I do love seeing into your life, the struggles, the successes, the family. It's not just about the farming, it's the whole big picture. Seeing you CIDR a sheep over and over is fine, because it's a part of the big picture and since it happens over and over it makes sense that we see it a couple of times a year. If people really don't like it they can always utilize the option to skip forward in the video.

You are never, ever going to make 100% of people happy. The masses have shown that they love what you do and even if we didn’t, do what makes you happy and what *you* are passionate about. Why someone feels the need to be nasty and then let you know that they aren't going to follow you anymore Is beyond me. I personally have watched every one of your videos from the beginning and I even go back and watch them again when I'm feeling down I'll watch the lambs frolicking around or the birthing videos they bring me up. The chores may be repetitious but it's different every time if that makes any sense. Chores are not a cut and paste situation, humanity comes into play which makes each similar chore different . I hope that's understandable to you not just to me. I don't comment on every video and infact barely comment, you have so many comments to read and by the time I watch the videos my comment is usually already made so I like those comments. My way to help you not waste your valuable time. 😉 Sorry that you were having a hard day. Keep your chin up and don't let the Debbie downers get you down. Stay happy, healthy, hydrated, safe and warm. May God continue to bless you and your family.

I’m glad Sandi repeats herself because I don’t always see what she’s trying to point out the first time. I like seeing videos where I know what she’s planning to do because it’s hilarious when it never quite goes to plan (usually for cute sheep reasons, not laughing at life stuff). That person has a right to their opinion but they’re missing out on all the fun. I’m relatively new (joined early 2022) but I’m going through the whole back catalog of videos. It lets me see how far she’s come & I understand the sheep better. I love this channel & I don’t get bored by it 🤷🏻‍♀️

Sandi, about how to start being more positive in your self talk, try this: 1. As soon as you catch yourself saying something negative to yourself, stop. Say (out loud if you are alone) CANCEL and brush your shoulder or arm as you say CANCEL. If you are in company, just do the brushing and think CANCEL. 2. Immediately think or say three things about yourself you know are both true and positive. Always say it out loud if you can, it is more powerful that way. Hint: take time now to identify three things about yourself that are both true and positive. Ask for help if you need it, but us telling you things are not the same as you thinking it through and picking three you know to be true and positive. You need to do that. Those first three are your anchor, then as you hear or realize others, add them to the list. Write it down on paper, or your computer or Gallagher. For the next month, do not spend time thinking about ways you want to improve - or put another way - don't think about your weaknesses. We all have them. For the next month, focus exclusively on your strengths, cancel all negative self talk. This is how you start changing. No one can do this but you - and you have to be very honest with yourself. If you don't know if it is a positive or not - reserve it to discuss with someone who knows you well and you trust to tell you the truth. Good luck. Edit: Saying things out loud is for you to hear it. Your mind voice talking to yourself is not as strong as your voice speaking out loud. The more you say good things to yourself out loud, your subconscious starts to accept it as true, even when you are in doubt. So do say things out loud, and take advantage of when you are alone to do it as much as possible.

@Julie Enslow - That is ABSOLUTELY GREAT ADVICE TO ANYONE. Our negative "self talk" can be SO destructive to our mind, body, & soul. And it depresses, exhausts, & saps creativity, too. Positive "self talk" does the Reverse of all that bad, flips it right on its head. NONE of us is even close to being perfect. Never let a Negative Ninny steal your joy. The problem is within themselves. Like the saying goes, "Misery loves company." She's so miserable, she wants to spread to others.

This friend inspired me to take up spinning and weaving when I moved to BC - so I think you're just the ticket for her to be watching your vlogs - after all, who can remain down when you see lambs shproinging up and SIDEWAYS!!! And my other friend also knits - but I'm going to recommend she watch your vlogs because she's missing having a dog so much...and her last dog was a black and white border collie! So, she needs to get to watch your lovely Kinsey and Lucy. See how much joy you bring to others? Yours in Gratitude for all you do and share.
