Romania, you’re beautiful! Spending 3 days living with a family at a sheep station in the mountains? Let’s go! I think lifestyles like this will disappear off the face of Europe within a generation, so documenting this traditional sheepfold in Maramures, the cheese making process and the life up there is something we shouldn’t take for granted.
Thank you to the Petru Family (Ion, Ana and Ionuc) for hosting me, Andra for being a wonderful friend and guide and The Village Hotel in Breb for organising this adventure.

Shepherds were (and are) considered stupid because their lifestyle does not allow for a systematic education. They're with the sheep year round. They spend most of the time traveling - sheep are moved hundreds of miles each spring and each autumn, between their wintering places and the summer pastures. That makes it difficult to go to school. On the other hand, they get a different kind of education. They know every herb and every critter that lives where they live, they know how to take care of most of their health problems themselves, they know more about sheep and dogs than many veterinarians, they know how to work with animals and how to deal with predators - and this knowledge is passed down from one generation to the next. The really sad thing is that once the link is broken, there's no way to put it back again.

@a0flj0 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, extremely peaceful, especially when a bear or a pack of wolves decides to pay a visit 😁 - which they occasionally do. There's a reason all those people kept repeating that it's a hard life. You don't get any of the comforts of civilization. You're practically on the job permanently. If you feel unwell, or get sick, there's nobody to fill your place. Every single mistake you make has an immediate and usually long lasting damaging effect on your flock.

Eva, unlike many travel KZfaqrs, does not treat people as an exhibit or background for their own performance, but interacts with them sincerely, tries to get to know them, their lifestyle. I love her approach to the world and people.

Yes we Romanians call it vegeta too, the lady was joking when she said "magic", referring to the company magi that make this poison...and I'm saying poison because it suppose to be salt and dry vegeta(vegetables) only, but unfortunately contains other chemicals too...

Omg that goulash and cheese donut looked amazinngggg. I also loved the Petru's family philosophy: if you love what you're doing, it's easy to do it. I think many more people need that kind of way of life, would spare the pain people experience of pursuing a fruitless way of life that doesn't align with their goals/values. Great vlog, Eva! Looking forward to the next one :)

Ooo it refreshed my memories of school days when I used to milk my buffalos on sunrise and evening. Indeed, it's a very technical work. These countryside works vanish the laziness from us and makes us to realise how grateful we are.
