They were able to tie the pants off and the parts that were tied up did not get bleached, where the portions what were exposed did get bleached. It could have been placed into a container that would do the same thing. If you are in Cali I can definitely show you how it was done. I am a professional dyer and I have dyed my share of denim jeans to produce this effect.

The method is called “reverse dye denim” it’s my favorite method for bleaching all type of fabrics :)

To me it seems like they bleached tie dyed a white denim. So it already has a white base and with the bleach tie dye mix you arent getting really vibrant colors. Then afterwards is when you start adding all the extra patches and repairs.

My thoughts are they used a spray bottle with bleach and then a spray bottle with color dye like they color hair? The remaining denim areas were covered with tape and plastic,like they paint automobiles?

You tie them like tie dye with rubber bands and submerge them in 1 part water 1 part bleach it won't bleach the whole pant
