Here's a rough guide to the factions that are playable with just Warhammer III and no DLC: * Kislev: Fantasy Russia. They're a jack-of-all-trades faction with a focus on hybrid units that use both melee and ranged weapons. They have a very strong late game, but the early game is an uphill struggle. Their playable leaders are Kostaltyn (basically Rasputin) and Katarin the Ice Queen (a powerful warrior-wizard) * Grand Cathay: Fantasy China. They're a defensive faction that focuses on fighting in close-order formations. Their playable leaders are Miao Ying, the Storm Dragon, and Zhao Ming, the Iron Dragon. Those titles are literal, they are both shapeshifting dragons in human form. Zhao Ming's campaign is probably the easiest start in Warhammer III for a beginner. * Khorne: Classic fire-and-brimstone demons. Absolutely crushes things in melee. Has no ranged weapons or magic, those are for cowards. The playable leader is Skarbrand, a disgraced Bloodthirster (Balrog). In campaign terms, they're all about non-stop aggression. * Tzeentch: Eldritch, arcane demons. They use a lot of ranged attacks, magic, and magical protections, but are flimsy in a straight fight. The playable leader is Kairos Fateweaver, a giant two-headed bird wizard. Their campaign has a lot of trickery and manipulating other factions. * Nurgle: Plague demons. They're slow, hard to kill, and spread lots of debuffs. The playable leader is Kugath Plaguefather, who is honestly kind of just a big plague demon. Their campaign mechanic lets you design custom diseases to spread in your enemies' territory. * Slaanesh: Horny demons. Speedy glass cannons. The playable leader is N'kari, a giant, vaguely humanoid demon with supermodel grace. Their campaign mechanics focus on diplomacy and stealing units. * Daemons of Chaos: A mix of demons from all four demonic factions. The playable leader is the Godslayer, a customizable Daemon Prince. Not nearly as cool as they sound, unfortunately.

I just realized that I actually forgot a faction! They're technically DLC, but it's free DLC! * Bretonnia: Fantasy France, with a dash of Camelot. They're a cavalry faction with terrible infantry, but knights for every occasion. The playable leaders are Louen Leoncoeur (the King of Bretonnia), the Fay Enchantress (a mysterious religious leader and powerful sorceress), Alberic de Bordeleaux (a knight leading an expedition to the New World), and Repanse de Lyonesse (fantasy Joan of Arc, currently leading a crusade in the lands of the dead)

So many tips / tricks to learn lol two I wanted to mention, you can move an entire formation together by holding CTRL when selected, you can then also rotate that grouping.. alot quicker than forming up each time. 2nd one was that sleds or chariot units, usually have a skirmish ability but are best used (and do good damage) as chariots, run them through enemy formations (just dont forget about them)

Loved the Guard Mode realization! It's great to be enabled on immobile missile units such as Bows or Artillery. Not so much on your infantry when trying to attack the enemy formations aggressively as you found out! Good work. It's cool to see someone experiencing Total war for the first time. PS. Pyrrhic victory is a victory that inflicts such a devastating toll on the victor that it is tantamount to defeat. It's a term derived from a real battle in which a Greek General and King lead his forces into a a situation as described.

Time for another tip or two. 1. Try to use your cavalry to bypass your opponents frontline and attack his vulnerable ranged and artillery units. Even if you cant kill them, locking them down and preventing them firing on your units is massive. 2. If you arrange your units in the deployment phase in a way you like, select any units you want to move when the battle begins, hold alt and left click and drag to move them while they maintain their formation. 3. When using magic, pause the game first so you can take your time to select the best location. You can also click and drag some spells, like your wind spell for example, to cast it in the direction you like. I didnt realise how fun it would be to watch a total newb learn to play a series ive been playing for over 20 years. Keep it up.

Holding alt and left click/drag to keep formation will be CLUTCH! It's so frustrating when they just run all willy-nilly to where you direct them. Like, STAY IN FORMATION, YA ROOKIES!

@@ChipHardbody Its a game changer mate. Means you can move your whole line and keep, for example, swordsmen in the middle, spearmen on the flanks, and cavalry on the wings, and have them all advance on the enemy while maintaining that same formation. Its soooo good.

If you have a group that is only melee troops, there is no need/point to selecting 'melee front' formation - those formations only matter if you have melee AND ranged units in the same group. Really enjoying watching your journey! Keep up the good work!

The "Ice Sheet" spell reduces the move speed and charge bonus of units you hit with it. Casting it on units that are standing still or already in melee doesn't actually do anything. Try to use it on units as they approach your battle lines to force them to take longer to reach you, allowing your archers more shots, or to slow down cavalry before they charge or when they flee.

Also another thing: you won't be able to play the green skins without their dlc or Warhammer 1. If you have Warhammer 3 and all it's dlc the factions you can play are: Kislev (all 4 lords, Boris Ursus is unlockable) Cathay (all 3 lords) Khorne (skarbrand the exiled) Slaanesh (nkarii) Tzeentch (kairos fateweaver and the changeling. The latter is the easiest campaign ever and defeat is almost possible) Nurgle (kugath, Tamurkhan and Epidemius Chaos Dwarfs (all 3 lords) Warriors of chaos (belakor- chaos undivided, valkia-khorne devoted, festus - nurgle devoted, Azazel - slaanesh devoted, Villitch - tzeentch devoted. Archaon the everchosen who is the main chaos lord, kholek suneater, and sigvald the magnificent are all part of the warriors of chaos dlc. Empire- Elspeth Von draken. Emperor Karl Franz and Gelt are both part of Warhammer 1. Volkmar the grim is from the "grim and the grave" dlc from Warhammer 1, but can be bought without Warhammer 1. Dwarfs- Malakai makaiison. High King Thorgrim Grudgbearer and ungrim ironfist are both part of Warhammer 1. Belegar ironhammer is part of the king and the warlord dlc. Grombrindal is an flc, I think you'll need either Warhammer 1 or 2 to unlock him. Ogre kingdoms (2 lords)

@@ChipHardbody good choice. They're pretty easy to understand. Static formations are the way to go so you can pay attention to Spellcasters, artillery and monsters. Miao ying's immortal empires start can be a lot to handle though, yuan Bo has a very easy campaign in realms of chaos as well.

Few more tips: 1- damage spells are the way to go for Spellcasters initially, but I often get all their spells eventually (some lores of magic have pretty useless spells though) 2: boost income is basically negligible. Id recommend putting skills into yellow lines and the army skill (furthermost left blue skull) for heroes, as well as any other skills. 3- the ice queen is tzarina Katarin, the main playable lord for Kislev in the full game. 4- don't feel bad about your kossovite dervishes getting wrecked. They're just a really REALLY bad unit. That unit of chaos knights in the battle in the middle of the video could have killed them all without too much trouble. 5- skirmish mode is more trouble than it's worth, you'll end up finding your archers getting wrecked by cavalry miles away from your army with no chance of getting helped. Kossars are decent in melee anyway so don't worry about them too much 6- different outcomes are Heroic victory (did great against the odds), decisive victory (won pretty easily), close victory (took a few casualties but did fine, can also be caused by a lot of ranged units using up their ammo meaning you lose balance of power), phyrric victory (named after a greek general, Phyrrus, who took so many losses against the romans he saw the victory as a defeat), and then you have valiant defeat (you did a good job but it wasnt enough), close defeat and decisive defeat are the same as the victories but flipped, and then crushing defeat (you should have won but something went wrong)

The characters from 1 and 2 are available in this games "immortal empires" campaign which is the one everybody plays tbh. Buying the base game Warhammer 1 or 2 will unlock the base races for those games, and the DLCs will unlock their respective characters/races in Warhammer 3 Immortal Empires. You dont need 1 or 2 to buy their DLC either so you can buy whatever characters look most interesting to you

For previous game, don’t buy dlc individually. They are dirt cheap in bundle (on steam). Wait for summer sales, it’s a good time. Same for TWW1 and TWW2, I think there is a bundle to get them both. I got TWW1 and TWW2 + all their DLC on a sale for around 60$ total. (Since I also got TWW3 for free when I bought my PC, I could say I got a pretty good deal 😁) Also, blood for the blood god of TWW1 is the cheapest, and once bought, it apply to all TWW. Meanwhile, you will get a load of fun with the base game. And if not as much as you wanted, well, don’t buy the rest 😅
