Introducing the new rugby playing Welsh tenor, Trystan. His debut song, Gwahoddiad is a rousing Welsh hymn and a favourite anthem of Welsh rugby crowds, often heard swirling around Principality Stadium at Six Nations and International matches. Trystan recorded it recently at Abbey Road Studios in London, where The Beatles, Pink Floyd and the Hollies recorded some of their most iconic albums during the 1960’s. Filmed in South Wales the video features locations and people closely associated with Trystan. The rugby team he plays for, the choir he sings with, the Welsh College of Music and Drama where he studied. It even features his local pub in Cymrych!

This was sung in Welsh with Welsh subtitles in a drama quite recently on television, at a funeral, beautiful!!

My Welsh grandfather had the most wonderful tenor voice. He couldn't read a note of music and had not been musically trained but from time to time he would sing a rousing rendition of this wonderful hymn. Every time it would bring a tear to my eye. He finally answered his Maker's gwahoddiad (invitation) in 2012 when he departed God's country to join the Heavenly Choir. We sang this hymn as his coffin was being led away. Miss you so much 'tadcu'!

It is so refreshing to hear. It is one of the last hymns I heard local miners sing as they were coming up from the pit and just before I left my home to work somewhere else. It really is my favourite hymn but only if it is sung in Welsh, although it’s origins are in the US. It gains something more when it is sung iin the language of the bards.

Trystan please record more Welsh hymns which today's youth desperately need to hear. The Welsh are very well known for their singing voices but yours is something else! It is other-wordly!

I am exploring Welsh hymns at the advice of a musical friend who lives in Cardiff, Wales (I play the piano in a small church in Maine.) I'm even trying to learn some Welsh! A beautiful start with a chills from this young man. Agreed on him recording more. His voice and this hymn are wonderful! From Maine USA.

Trystan is, in my opinion and without reservation, the finest young singer alive today, and an outstanding role model for young aspiring singers. He sings with 100% love for God, country, family, friends, and music, presents himself well, has obviously had outstanding training, and is a gift to this planet at a time when we desperately need him.

Thank you for this beautiful rendition. We played this at my fathers funeral yesterday. This song was also.sung at my mother and grandfathers funerals. I'd like it played at mine

From Revd. David Chesters, Rector of St John the Baptist Chester.... I found this quite by accident.... I was looking particularly for Gwahoddiad sung by a Male Voice Choir and came across this absolutely brilliant rendition... I wish I could afford to book Trystan to sing with the St John's Festival Orchestra

To be honest with everybody here. When the lord calls me home, I want this played at my memorial service. It's moving to begin with it also raises chills & puts a lump in everybody's throat. I wouldn't want it any other way.

What's missing from the video of this excellent performance is any reference to the subject matter of the lyrics. It's not about rugby football, it's not about pubs or landscapes. Yes, I know it's in Welsh, but it's not about Wales. It's about Calvary.

Technically this is an American gospel hymn with the tune and original lyrics written by Methodist minister Lewis Hartsough under the title "I am Coming Lord". The Welsh have certainly done more with it, but it is American in origin and should probably be credited as such.
