Thank you for giving a very encouraging and fair assessment of the convention last week! I was there and have been disappointed to see all the unfair reporting (on both sides) coming out. What was reflected in this video truly does encapsulate what it was like at the convention. Blessings to you all! P.S. It was a pleasure to meet you in person Dr. Ascol :)

Great episode. I appreciate the run down of all the specific objections to Law. Very enlightening.

Were there any 'senior' pastors in the NT churches? Were they not all multiple-elder led? Was not the position of elder limited to qualified men? That the Law amendment did not pass unanimously says something about the state of the SBC (and it is not good).

Why is the SBC voting on women pastors? Why is a vote needed on something that is clear in the Bible? The SBC is going down the wrong path, and it is quite disappointing.

Thanks for this, brothers. I'm a Presbyterian but go to a southern baptist church. I appreciate the insight as I'm not super familiar with the workings of the sbc.

In most Old School Baptist Churches Elders are all ordained men, there are deacons who are also only men, and the ‘lead pastor’ is called the moderator.

As discussed, the amendment to not allow female pastors within churches under the SBC did not pass this year. Did someone ask for it to be voted on in 2025 and if passed, vote again in 2026 or will that need to wait until 2025 to ask to bring to another initial vote in 2026 and if passed in 2026, vote again in 2027?

This was the second consecutive vote. It passed last year with 80% votes. SBC rules, for it to pass it has to be voted in favor two years in a row. I don’t know what it looks like to try again

Someone please help me understand how a woman being regularly platformed by pastors and leaders, recommended by pastors to other pastors for her expertise on false shepherds and wolves in the church, and asked to speak on this very pastoral subject to a room full of men at a lunch hosted by the Center for Baptist Leadership… is not also a violation of 1 Timothy 2:11-13?

Probably because the SBC interpretation of those verses currently limits the application of those verses to teaching within the church and authority in the church and I presume she spoke at the general assemblies/meetings and not behind the pulpit in a worship or other church service. There is also a huge difference between being an “authority” about something which typically just means you are an expert and having authority. Megan is an authority because she’s an expert but she doesn’t have authority because there is no mechanism by which she exerts control over the people she was speaking to. Someone could do the opposite of what she recommends or simply refuse to do any of it and she has no authority to make them. It’s a subtle but important distinction. I suspect you draw broader boundaries than the vast majority of SBC churches when it comes to these verses. Which to be frank is part of the issue with the female preachers/pastors question. My church has a female worship leader and it’s a very old school and conservative church. But she doesn’t choose the songs and she doesn’t do any preaching within the music, it’s simply her job to try and keep the band together and then to be the lead vocal for the congregation to join in with. Most in the SBC would have no problem with her being in that position. But a different church might call that position the worship or music pastor as opposed to leader. So if a woman is in the same position as our worship leader but holds the name pastor is that a problem? Is a change of titles a sufficient resolution?

@@TGuard00014 Thank you, you make some good points. You’re right, my understanding of the text concerning women has broader implications. While many pastors rightly teach that the prohibition in verse 12 concerns the order of worship, my husband and I don’t believe that this is limited to the Sunday gathering, just as praying for our rulers, leading quiet lives, men praying everywhere without wrath and doubting, and women dressing modestly according to good works are not limited to the Sunday gathering (verses 1-2, 8-10). In other words, what is commanded for women in the church has application for everyday life in the home and in society as well, according to our nature and the created order.

Why is Megan not a Debra ? Judges 4 and 5. Why is there no man filling this void for info concerning "Follow the money.". Sometimes women have to pick up a weapon and help educate and encourage the people to win the war. A pastor is a very different role than the speakers role Megan that played to provide info allowing others (men) to lead how to respond.
