In this video, Joseph explains how to expedite the I-131 reentry permit or advance parole application for urgent travel reasons, such as the death of a family member, a medical emergency, or an urgent business reason. Joseph outlines the various options for the expedited I-131 application, such as visiting the local USCIS field office, calling USCIS Contact Center, and submitting a written request with the I-131 application, among others.

Many people have urgent reasons to travel, whether it is to visit a family member facing a medical emergency or to attend to an urgent business matter. But for those who have pending green card applications, or green card holders who need to be outside of the U.S. for more than 1 year, they must first apply for the I-131 travel document in order to safely leave the country without jeopardizing their legal status. The COVID-19 pandemic has further complicated the situation by causing long processing delays or canceling biometrics appointments.

does anyone know what constitutes a good reason for expedite? I am asking because my work is sending me to Bermuda, and my wife is from Venezuela, which has no embassy here in the USA, and we have a 2 year old, and we need to get her a reentry permit since her passport is expired and there is no way to renew her passport due to no embassy. Anyways, to keep the family together due to the child's age, is that sufficient enough to be expedited?

Hi there. Thanks for your video. I did my fingerprints but I'm still waiting on the approval of my advance parole. I need to go back to my country asap cause my mom is on the icu. I had an overstay problems. So I saw in your video that after the fingerprints, I can go overseas and wait for my advance parole there? That's who works? Thank you so much!

Good day! I’m going back to the US this December to file the re entry permit, would it be advisable for relatives to mail the I-131 a month before I get to the country so I’m in the country to take biometrics? Since I can’t stay too long in the US as I need to return back to my country for university. Also I reside at Virginia Beach, VA. I’d love to hear which office near me would the I-131 be filed at as the relative who’ll file it is on the older side.

If I have just made biometrics for I-765 and my EAD is approved, could it expedite my Advanced Parole approval? Will it be necessary to make one more biometrics?

We filed all documents in September , biometrics in October and 693 completed and received by uscis in April. My husband needs to return to Italy asap. We are still waiting for approval on 131, 485. If my husband travels , will it be considered abandoned , what is the process of this happens ?

I have been recently granted green card as principal applicant and I want to apply for re-entry permit because I still employment contract in Europe that I need to stay a little longer. Is that enough reason to expedite I-131? If yes, as principal applicant with my spouse and 2 little kids, do we need to file 4 I-131?

First of all thank you so much for the information that you provided here! they are so useful. I have a quick question about this process. While apply for EB2 case, I filed my I-765 along with I-131 application at the end of February. As we know USCIS is issuing EAD and AP separately these days, maybe that was the reason I received EAD without AP. They say Travel Doc will come in next 2 or 3 month but I really need to leave USA because of the medical reasons. Can I ask USCIS for an expedite approval of I-131? or is it going to be an Emergency Advance Parole?

Hi Mr. Tsang! I have already given the fingerprints, 3 months after I filed the i-485, with priority date July 30 2021. I am still waiting for my Advance Parole to be approved and last status is "show that fingerprints were taken", on August 19 2022. Can I leave the US and have someone mail me the Advance Parole document overseas so I can return to make the i-485 interview later on, or if I leave without Advance Parole approve that will jeopardize my already approved i-140 and pending i-485 petitions? I've been in the US for 3 years and haven't been able to travel because of covid travel ban and then because of pending i-485 and i-131. Thank you.

Is it safe to leave after biometrics and have the AP fedex’d after it’s approved? I thought if you left the country without AP they consider your application abandoned?

Typically expedited processing does cost more, for things like I-485 applications, but I'm not sure that these additional steps cost more than the regular I131 filling fee. Calling USCIS/ making an InfoPass appointment is free.

Hard to say! It's possible that the USCIS officer reviewing your case might not even realize he's in the army.

Hii I have daca I am very confused about starting the advance parole because I need to have it expedited due to my grandpa having multiple cancerous tumors in his head they have giving him just a few months to live…the person who helps me with my daca renewals didn’t give me much hope and neither did a very expensive lawyer I consulted in regards to expediting :(

Thank you for your question! Do not leave the U.S. without the Advance Parole! If you leave the U.S with a pending I-485, without an Advance Parole document, your I-485 application will be considered abandoned and you'll have to start a new application. (It does not matter that you have a valid visa) You could expedite your I-131 if the reason you are leaving the U.S is critical, but that option requires careful planning and building your case.
