Song actually starts at 00:43. I still wish I had gotten to go to school here... I just could not afford it as a poor ministry kid so I ended up at Pensacola Christian - did a summer there but just couldn't make it work financially there either. Finally, an adviser "took me for a walk outside of the office" one day so nobody could hear what she had to say - on that walk, she told me that I could get into state university and go there for almost free. That spoke to my spirit for sure. She helped me privately and off the clock and she helped me get into UCF closer to home here in Orlando. While I enjoyed my time at UCF, I will always wish I had gotten to go to my first choice and hope of school which was Bob Jones University. I studied music at PCC and I would have given the world to get to sing in a choir like this... Watching this video makes me miss getting to make music with my friends and sing quality fun pieces.

My choir from Arctic Norway used to sing Shosholoza in 1992. Our conductor came up with the song. I can't tell where he got the lyrics from but "South Africa" was definetely not part of the lyrics. Except from that, I regconize the lyrics. Fun song to sing. We were dancing and clapping while performing.

"South Africa" is certainly part of the lyrics. They go (basically) 'move quickly on the mountains, train from South Africa...' and it was a working song about/for the miners who used to be transported by train to go and work in the South African gold mines.

NOOOOOOOO!!! The song that the pianist starts playing next at the end - for their next piece... do you have a video of that one too!?? I need to see and hear that one. Sigh. My heart is overwhelmed tonight.

@Gandalf_the_Gay It is a song that the miners used to sing on their train journey to the gold mines of South Africa. The lyrics are (roughly) "move quickly across the mountain, train from South Africa".

@koolaidjammer7108 Amazing! You know, they once sang "Saturday Night" and it wasn't even Saturday. 😔 Just because a song was sung on some occasion, that doesn't mean it is for or about that occasion. Also, why do you think Mandela's release had anything to do with people working in mines?
