Yuja Wang : may be the best solo, ensemble, concerto, and accompanist player in recorded history. The breadth of her memorized repertoire is beyond comprehension.
@beckerhanshermann8372 Жыл бұрын
And you have no idea what other pianists have in terms of repertoire, Ms. Wang always plays the same thing, Rachmaninoff. Shostakovich, Prokofiev and so on.
@lockjiang11 ай бұрын
actually, pianists immersed in European tradition like Trifonov, etc. has far wider repertoire, it's in their training process. The fact that she is doing chamber repertoire just shows that she runs out of major repertoire to for sustainable recital career, which kinda suggests that she might be on the same track of Argerich, that is avoiding the solo recital, which, of course, is far challenging and inhumane for pianists who also want good life instead of "no life", it's understandable, especially if in your early years your teacher hasn't widened your solo repertoire to help you go through this sudden catapult of fame in early stage of your solo career.

To read the comments about 'projection' of the clarinet etc. is amusing, given the compression involved in internet transmission of the video, and the miking and recording artefacts introduced by making the recording. Finding fault with such a superb, freely-available, transcendent piece of video just shows why humanity is in such a mess.

I love Martin Frösts playing...Unfortunately the last experiences listening live to him play were rather disappointing. Regardless if he plays with orchestra or piano, his tone is not anymore the nice big sound it use to be like in the times he was playing Buffet Tosca and before. 20 years ago, when I first heard him play live it was impressive, last two years I was quite unhappy to have listened live. In Frankfurt (HR Orchestra) the recording of the Debussy Rhapsody was nicely mastered by the sound magicians (technicians), the live performance was not as enjoyable... Yuya Wang is amazing! I love it how they play together the Brahms Sonata!

Yuja's rhythmic sense is so crisp. Does she listen to James Brown, or what?
@s.c.14942 жыл бұрын
Well she listens to Eminem... But I believe her crisp rhythmic sense is a result of her early years of training under the watchful eyes (actually ears) of her percussionist father. Her father, Yuja said, "was a Nazi about me playing absolutely clean note wise and tempo wise."

He plays too forlorn soft, like background music to the piano. In duos, Wang doesn't play like a subservient accompanist, but more like a star pianist. She plays spiritedly while he sounds in a drowsy state of mind. Nevertheless, I enjoyed their combo playing, even though I'm not familiar with those pieces. Yuja's playing, as always, made things interesting.

Clarinet is wind instrument played with musician's mouth-breath-lungs, but piano is played by musician's hands and foot. So, do not expect clarinet sound output by the musician's mouth to be loud compare to the piano sound output by the pianist. I think the two musician's are playing their parts of the music as written. So, I do appreciate their duo harmony and beauty - no complaint with Yuja or Martin of their respective playing their instruments' sound volumn.

Yuja plays like a soloist she rather disregards her role as a chamber music pianist, as she is in this case.

Yuja is very talented, even a genius. No question about it. So was Liberace, I guess. But, I doubt she understands what "classical" means to some (mostly senior?) people. It is a whole package including appearance - if on stage. What I hear and what I see are conflicting. The distraction robs the pleasure of watching a "classical" performance. Sooner or later, I will stop watching her performance, which constantly reminds me of a classical pianist turned into a piano playing clown in Las Vegas. Her talent deserves better packaging. The same thought applies to many corrupted opera performances these days.

Everyone knows the film "An Immoral Offer" with Robert Redford. and Demi Moore. Let's make Miss Wang an offer: Her fans raise $1 million via crowd-funding. If Ms Wang plays the piano naked at Carnegie Hall, she gets $1 million, - tax free. I think she'd do it. ist etwas exhibitionistisch, sie liebt das Geld und sie liebt die Aufmerksamkeit des Publikums. She's a bit of an exhibitionist, she loves the money and she loves the attention of the audience.
