The reason I play guitar is George Harrison. The master of taste and exactky what's needed. We could all wax lyrical on the the genius of John and Paul. But their's would be a lesser accomplishment without the subtle grandeour of George to bring out the the brilliance of The Beatles. Thank you Mike for articulating the 'quite one's' contribution the the Beatles' overall excellence.

I'm 66. And I've lived with their music all my life. I played, I play and I sing their songs. But I've never thought about what the genius of their music is. Melodicity is the beauty of the sound, undoubtedly. But only now I understand that the main thing is in the little things, the combination of little things in their beautiful music. They are in each of their songs, little things that add a certain charm, beauty of sound. This is their genius.

Most excellent. My favorite Beatle song to play. If you can't have fun playing this one, what CAN you have fun playing? Jut think, when this ws released, it was not good enough to play on American radios. All that changed of course after"I Want to Hold Your Hand". No wonder the Beatles had all top 5 songs in the charts and 7 of the top 10 at one time in 1964. Even a simple song such as this one needs your insight to break it down into what went into it. The Beatles understood harmony. Not just vocal harmony, but instrument harmony. That, and being anxious to change and experiment, was why they were so much better than everyone else. Thank you for doing this

Yeah as a 61 year old who wishes that he had significant guitar talent, and envies those that do, I can say that the Beatles songs are not at all simple. They were fairly complex arrangements. And to this day, i still marvel at all of the wonder of creative stuff they did. If you listen, they were INVENTING so much interesting stuff that NOBODY else had the guts to try. Their producer, George Martin, is often considered the 5th Beatle because of his contributions to their music. Like them or dislike them, anybody who dismisses their work just simply doesn’t know what they are talking about.

I rank the Beatles right up there with Tesla, Einstein and Edison for pure brilliance.

You guys are awesome...this is the first song I ever heard the Beatles play in 1963 in Vancouver BC. It is a moment in time I will never forget! I was 13 years old and building a model car with by buddy Bobby. Even at that age I knew this was music beyond compare!!!!

Just another fantastic video Mike. I so appreciate the history of the recordings as well that you provide. These guys were just amazing beyond comprehension. Thinking about them with this level of sophistication barely in their 20's adds to the amazement.

Mike, your tutorials are amazing. You make the lessons so much fun and the stories about how the songs were created are just so cool. Thank you for the work you do. Your instrument collection is amazing as well.....

Newcastle, New South Wales in Australia, 1964. For years I had been enjoying all the songs of the 50s and early 60s from my mother's radio. These included Buddy Holly, the Everly Brothers, Sheb Woolly (Purple People Eater), Rolf Harris and skiffle (My old man's a dustman). Then one morning in April 1964 (I was 14 years old), I hear something totally different and spell-binding, the Beatles "She Loves You". I was immediately obsessed with the song and the group. I will never forget that morning. I didn't realise it was the same group that I had heard play their instrumental "Cry for a Shadow" and backing Tony Sheridan in "My Bonnie" years before. I had to buy a guitar and learned more from analysing Beatles' song chords than from anything or anyone else. Thanks for this Mike, it means a hell of a lot to an ageing Boomer in Australia. They visited Australia in 1964. I missed the shows but my wife saw them in Sydney. There is some excellent video from these concerts, I hope it is still on KZfaq. How lucky was I to live through the 1960s? Here is some good video of She Loves You from the Aus tour in 1964. Watch John playing the Intro chords just as Mike described - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/r618ocaAyNuapmg.html

A masterful breakdown of a seminal song -- bravo! Spot-on vocals and instrumentation! Take a bow, Mike. This is a great illustration of the importance of chord voicing -- even with relatively simple chords -- and demonstrates why The Beatles were truly exemplary of the phrase 'The whole is greater than the sum of the parts.'
