After dropping Game 5 in Vancouver, the Oilers came back to win Game 6 and 7 to beat the Canucks and advance to the Western Conference Finals against the Stars. Oilers won with Defense, blocking shots non stop, simple strategy

It's hard to really argue with Knoblauch's results...but the Oilers were near the top of the league in nearly all defensive measures except they had league worst goaltending until maybe 20 games in. At the same time, they were also near the top of the league offensively, but with an unusually low shooting %, which would inevitably sort itself out. They were probably just a really good team experiencing a historical goaltending slump in the first month. A little while later, things averaged out and they went on ridiculous winning streaks. The result is that they have been both overrated and underated going into the playoffs. They are just a good all-around team (not unbeatable ) who have seen some iffy goaltending for a couple of stretches.

When the oilers made the adjustments and played some of their best hockey in game 6 and 7 it exposed how much better the Oilers are then the Canucks

It was really a chess match with the coaches. It was fascinating to see how each team adjusted after losing a game. Little adjustments and heart from the players made the difference.

Surprised the Canucks weren't able to overcome the Oilers' defense and blocking their shots! They played quite well against Nashville's defensive system which is arguably stronger than the Oilers'. I would've thought they would have learned from that experience.

What a dumb title. The Oilers didn't "come back" from anything. Each team traded wins until game 7. They were never down 2-0 or 3-0 or 3-1.

@@TwoSmoker420if it goes to game 7 there is a 80-85% chance Peter Deboer will improve to 9-0 in game 7s. Better hope you guys can close it out in 6 but the Stars are one hell of a team to beat on the road. Colorado was the best home team this year a Ball Arena and they were 0-3 at home against Dallas. Too much pressure is going to be on the top 6 of Edmonton to score and when they cannot (and they will have games where it is just not clicking) Dallas will prevail more so than not

It's pretty simple, they are and always were the better team. Had Skinner played well early in the series this easily would have been an Oiler sweep. This series was no where near as close as it looked

only oilers fans can lie to themselves that a 7 game series where every game except one was was decided by 1 goal wasn't "close". this series was pretty even, although each team would dominate for a few periods in a row. imagine going 7 games with a team playing its 3rd string goalie. if demko plays this probably ends up being the canucks moving on. good luck in dallas, hopefully skinner learns how to stop a puck.

@@rocrollrocroll8721 he was averaging 3 goals against with .880 save percentage that’s atrocious. He wasn’t playing that well, maybe you guys aren’t familiar with good goaltending but demko would have definitely been a huge difference maker.

@@harmangill7509 The fact that you used Makar to make your point shows you don't understand how contracts in the NHL work. Cale did sign after him, but Cale signed that contract over his RFA years where he has very little leverage and walks him to UFA status where he gets to cash in. Cale is a great defenseman, but using him as the example is comparing apples to oranges. Seth Jones would be a more comparable example as both he and Nurse were set to be UFA's and signed those contracts. Nurse is -10 right now, but one of them is still playing hockey. Nurse was a victim in this series of playing well, keeping the opposition chances to low % chances, and Skinner having a couple bad games and letting some bad goals in. Nurse does a ton for the team that he gets no credit for, I'm happy to have him on my team.

Out coached. Period. Canucks didnt change their strategy AT ALL for 3 games. Attempted the samr forced plays over and over and over . Like the powerplay ZERO one timers they NEVER setup on the off wing. Damn so frustrating to watch

Oilers would have beaten both Vegas and the AV's this year. The biggest issue the Oilers will have going into this series, will be goaltending, outscoring isn't my preferable way to win.
