This is how it was in Hawaii during the 2011 Japan tsunami, except in some areas it was a bit stronger, enough to flood hotels and knock a couple of houses off their foundations on the Big Island (Kona west side). You were lucky that the Seychelles are far enough across the Indian Ocean to not be affected so much, same as us in Hawaii from Japan. Further east the Maldives got it much worse.

the tsunami was weak because of the well beeing of the coral reefs around the seychelles. it works like a natural wafe breaker offshore so the energy of the waves doesnt arrive the coast

While all coasts can be attacked by Tsunamis, some areas have a much higher risk than others. This video should be mandatory viewing in coastal areas that are at risk for Tsunamis. It illustrates perfectly how the water quickly pulls back from the shoreline and how far out it goes, acting like a low tide ON STEROIDS. While there are several signs that a tsunami is imminent, THIS is the most important warning sign that Mother Nature will give you that a Tsunami is about to strike. If you’re at the beach and you see this happening…GET AWAY FROM THE COAST AND GET TO HIGH GROUND immediately. No high ground? Look for a concrete building and get to the roof. Earthquakes are the #1 cause of Tsunamis. If you feel the ground shaking, especially if the shaking is strong, get to high ground and keep your eyes on the water. There may be no tsunami, but better to be inconvenienced and safe until authorities give the all clear, than dead. Excellent video and great narration. Glad to see that at this location at least, the waves were under a meter high and basically nature provided us with a safe lesson in Tsunami warning signs. Thank you for the video. Happy you and your wife were safe! 👋 😊

It was a tsunami, just not on this specific island... the tsunami hit mostly the main island, that's where there was the most injuries and 2 casualties... Seychelles has over a 100 islands, of course not a are going to get affected. He was lucky because it didn't hit that specific island but he could still experience the effects of a tsunami.

@@lucachichiarelli3534some info: A tsunami does NOT need to go beyond a shoreline. Sometimes, like here there's a straight of water, or the earthquake wasn't strong enough and the energy is absorbed- or never created- there's just not enough energy in the water to create that 'big wave' a lot of people assume is coming). But the wave is often not the first, or second thing. This may happen several times before a wave forms (here, the coral reef protected them. 20km away, it was an eight metre wave that went kilometres inland) The wave may go inland, then retreat, before coming again and again and again. Its great you're interested, but before 'telling someOne what a tsunami ISNT', you should check some easily available sources. This Tsunami killed more than a quarter of a MILLIION people, in tens of countries. It was devastating. GOOGLE: Boxing day Tsunami. Google : Japan Tsunami -will also reveal a LOT of information. The earthquake, a 9.0 that caused that (along with an undearsea landslide, its since been shown) was one of the 5 most powerful in the history of records, starting in 1900and actually slowed the roatation of EARTH ever so slightly. THAT Tsunami reached 40 metres in places. (132ft- or thereabouts) And there's so much footage of it..most of the time, it was in harbours. The name 'Tsunami' means harvour wave. Anyway. Educate yourself, before educating others. I tried to be as accurate as I could iin regards to numbers and apologise if sone were wrong. Its been many years since I read a lot on tsunami. Take care. Wear a mask, wash your hands Stay safe.
