I live in parklands. Same I had to evac in 2016 to.. I actually slept through the shaking it woke me up cause it made me dizzy..

You know NZ uses Air Raids for the fire service in the smaller villages? People would be confused on every Fire call out. I think this one will do pretty good. At first I thought, well, you could think a truck is backing off, but the build up is good and clear.

The only ones who would be confused are some tourists. Everyone who has lived here knows that air raid alarms don't literally mean theres an air raid or a tsunami

Thank goodness we had them today! There was a Tsunami warning for the east coast of NZ after we had the 7.5 earthquake. It's really scary hearing theses thing go off at 2:30 in the morning

Imagine that but here in America for tornadoes and thunderstorms also yeah some places use it for thunderstorm watches and warnings . I don’t live in a place that has a storm siren which is awful. Where I’m from theres a lot of them. From the USA state of South Carolina but live in Ohio due to the fact our house burnt down .

You do realise it is literally impossible with today's technology and understanding of fault systems for an emergency warning system for earthquakes right? The best geologists can do is get a rough average return time (the interval between earthquakes) and say "In the next 50 years you have an x% chance of y fault rupturing and creating an earthquake of magnitude z."

hippity hopotus Not particularly helpful when the earthquakes we're worried about all ocurr within tens of kilometres or less of the centres we're trying to protect.

hippity hopotus You wouldn't get a minute's warning. If you lived in Greymouth or Franz Josef, or Wellington, you would know about the earthquake before the warning system did.

Tri State Railfan It has a 3 stage sound system. 1 is just alert for whoever is outside, 2 is just so it is heard from a distance, 3 is to make sure whoever is sleeping is not.
