I agree with you. I am a vintage MF lens user for years and I can say that TTArtisan makes impressive stuff. The 23mm f/1.4 is my favorite 35mm equivalent lens and I am using it on my a6000 almost all the time. In character and build quality it rivals the top tier MF lenses from Zeiss, Voigtlander and Meyer Optik and given the price this is mind blowing! The color rendition is solid but it’s strength for me is black and white, because of the amazing contrast. Really, is a must have lens. You can do low light shooting or take advantage of the 1.4 aperture for artistic purposes and if you want a very sharp image, stop it down to f/8 for a great prime look.

Interesting little thing. Great video as always :) I have one manually lens and it is the Canon FD 50mm 1.4 which my father used to take pictures of us. Now I'm able to adapt that on my A7IV and take pictures of my own family :) That's the cool thing about manual lenses, they can survive decades of camera bodies - see Leica M-mount lenses.

I force myself on a trip to UK by using manual focus lens for 2 weeks and I can't go back to auto focus now! the concentration, a bit slower pace, and the total control of the situation, also the rethinking and recomposition after getting the subject in focus is more appealing to me as the true "photography" IMO. I got a lot more "useful" photo than from those autofocus lens. I think there is some kind of subconscious action when we using autofocus lens. Every Time I heard the "peep" sound I will assume it is all ok and automatically press the shutter button, it is kind of a mandatory sequence without any more thinking in the head. And more often we find out later it focused on the wrong subject! Then I get use to the action of firing a series of shots and select the best one out of a tones of photo afterward. It is not fun to me.

Great job on the video Mark! Thanks for making it. I have a suite of c-mount lenses that are intended for CCTV cameras. The 6mm, 16mm, and 25mm have horrible vignetting unless you opt to use clear image zoom to 1.5. The 35mm (f1.6) on the other hand takes some pretty cool photos while the 50mm (f1.4) has saved my bacon on two different projects now. The I think the 50 has 13 aperture blades maybe? The bokeh is insane on it. Most of these lenses were made by Pixco I think. I just got a step-up ring that will allow me to use my variable ND on the 35, with another on its way that will hopefully work for the 50. I might have to sacrifice some minimum focus distance to do it, but so be it. I hope to use it to get some slow-mo shots of my hummingbirds this summer with the orange honeysuckle in full bloom behind it so all you see is an orange and green blur behind the beautiful hummingbird.

I could tell immediately that lens A was the expensive one, because of the depth of field, sharpness and contrast, but do not see those differences as terribly significant. I'm so amateur though that the lack of AF scares me away a little bit. I'm much more of an audio person, and am never going to be a sophisticated videographer. Entertaining as always!

I've used TTArtisans prime lenses on my Lumix GX85 and they're excellent for someone learning framing and focal length (and honestly just need a constant shot without hunting). Ironically enough, I will be receiving my new Sony ZV-E10 on Friday! Upsold my Lumix LX10 for a ZV-1 a few months back and it's made me want to fully commit to Sony. Picked up a Sigma 16mm 1.4 as well to go with the kit lens and I'm stoked to finally complete the full transition from Panasonic

Hi, Mark. This might be a dumb question, but does this lens allow focus points to appear on the digital screen at least when you're manually focusing? Or does it never tell you which part of the image is in focus? Great video as always. Nice subtle color scheme change as well!

I'm looking for something more artsy... so if it covers with minor vignetting that's what I'm after ... also if it gives the purple corners because of the light-angle , then it's also a no-go. Regarding the test at the beginning of the video, the difference is definitely noticeable, but I think the manual focus is responsible for this added blurriness on the color checker as an example. I redid the test thinking maybe I didn't manually focus as accurately with the TTArtisan (I manually focused with the Sony Lens as well) - but it came out the same - the 24mm GM is just a much sharper lens, as you might expect from a GM lens vs a $100 lens.

Focus breathing in a manual lens?? Please enlighten on how that happens. I thought that phenomenon existed exclusively with automatically-focusing lenses... and separated the sheep from the goats in that realm.
@MarkBennettCameraCrisis
@MarkBennettCameraCrisis 6 ай бұрын
Focus breathing is when you see the frame expand and contract while focusing. With a manual lens it wont happen if you’re not using the focus ring, but when you are - the lens can breathe just like any other. Also, some of the most expensive autofocus lenses like Sony GM lenses focus breathe heavily. Focus breathing isn’t a big indicator of the quality of a lens. It’s just one aspect that photographers and filmmakers need to think about. It will affect some and not others
