One thing that OM System could improve for full manual lenses: Since the aperture selection in the camera doesn’t have any impact on the lens, when using a non-coupled, manual lens, it could still be used to write that information to the exif data! So I have to manually sync that, but that would be so much easier than taking notes and apply this afterwards to the files‘ metadata.

Very appealing lens Peter , especially at that aperture and using it in zone focusing for the grab shots . Perfect and so reasonably priced that it would be an even more attractive as a secondhand used in mint condition . I already have the Sigma 30mm 2.8 and very happy with that lens, but for those Looking for an alternative to the 25mm 1.8, this makes it a worthy consideration in so many ways. Thanks Peter .

This lens gives a nice value for money. It is not at its best full open, but stopping down to f4 it is very nice.

I appreciate your desire to find beauty in grungy places. I have been using that method of thinking to try and find something good about the city I live in. I don't like the city itself, but tiny pieces of beautiful things out of context do look nice. The contrast of the setting adds to it.

Most likely I will go there and photograph. The surrounding area is changing a lot all the time. New buildings are built around that area. It used to be a harbour and it is being transformed into a residential area.

Interesting little lens! Good review, thank you. I use a lot of vintage lenses which I collect, so neither the character nor the placement of the aperture ring bothers me. I will consider it to be paired with my OMD-10, looks like a good match. One more thing: In one of the recent videos you said that you don’t feel like you have a specific style or subject you photograph. You said you do a little bit of everything. Well, I can say that you are often attracted by these grumpy places and you love to photograph graffiti. You have a very fine, lovely ability to transform these places and subjects into pieces of art in your photography and yes, it is hard to explain - the beauty in the mess, but it is there! So this is the subject I often associate you with. I also like to photograph those subjects, but I don’t have the same extracting ability nor talent of transformation as you have. Maybe I will improve one day, will keep trying. Have a nice day Peter.

Great review Peter! Fantastic outdoor shots with the lens! Agree with you about it best at f4! I’m finding the same with my copy as well. It’s surprisingly fun for such a cheap lens! I’m using it more and more than I thought!

@@ForsgardPeter So far I've mainly used it as an indoors CAT photography lens lol! But, I'm going to use it to shoot a short film soon. It reminds me very much of classic Minolta lenses or the old off brand FD mount lenses!
@ForsgardPeter

Be aware when filming a video with it. The focus will change the field of view a bit. Even it is a prime you could say that it has some focus breathing, kind of. Otherwise, I think the quality will be really nice.

Thanks for the review. I picked one up - nice little lens. It was mostly a nostalgia purchase since I already have the 25mm/f1.8 so it's a bit redundant - the extra stop isn't that critical. But - I wanted a full manual "normal" lens that doesn't require a bulky adapter to perhaps recreate the feel of using my old OM film cameras with their 50/1.8. I've always said I wanted a native "fifty" manual lens for my digital cameras and now I can put that to the test. The manual focus on the Olympus 25/1.8 is fine but does not feel the same at all as a true mechanical focus ring. I might sell the Olympus lens - haven't decided yet. I'll need to take it for a walk around town to see how I like it in those situations. From what I've seen so far, it's a winner for the price point. I wish TTArtisan would come out with a nice compact 17/1.8 (or 1.4) to compete with the Olympus 17/1.8. The ones I've seen are larger.

It is quite nice. Also with the low price the lens is a bargain. The value you get is quite high. Do you use it as an all-around lens?
@bobpetti4841
@bobpetti4841 2 жыл бұрын
@@ForsgardPeter Yes - very high value for that price - quite sharp. Not entirely sure how I'll use it - this isn't a very active time of year for me - I'll know more this Spring and Summer when we get out and about more. My thoughts were to use it those days I just want to walk around town with a single prime lens and have some fun and no stress so much about IQ or anything like that. For me the manual aspect is quite enjoyable.
@hauke3644
@hauke3644 2 жыл бұрын
For me a prime that isn’t really sharp wide open doesn’t make much sense. So in your position I’d keep the MZuiko. Or you trade it in for the excellent Sima 30mm/1.4. For wide angle, I can highly recommend the Panasonic Leica 15mm.
@bobpetti4841
@bobpetti4841 2 жыл бұрын
@@hauke3644 Yes, I understand. It's not great at f1.4, but it's fine at f2. Edge sharpness for the photos I have in mind isn't critical, and center sharpness at f1.4 is ok. f2 is better. And it's a fun lens to use - which sometimes is what I'm after.

Make sure you carry personal protection. Hanging out in run down places can be dangerous to one’s health, and you are distracted with the camera. Great video work. Thank you for sharing. Been working so much my camera has been in the closet. It’s nice to see people out shooting. :)

I like the olympus 25mm f1.8 lens but what I don’t like is that it doesn’t have the focusing distances which is very impractical to me for zone focusing, I might give this one a try since it’s less expensive. Where did you get the lens hood from?

Mr. Peters, hello. I recently bought the Olimpus Zuico 100-400. When I mounted it on the device I found that it has a play of approximately 0.5 mm. I do not know what to do. The photos I took at the 3,200 iso are impeccable. This game is possible to allow moisture to penetrate and dust in the body of the appliance? My device is modest, an OM-D 10 Mark 3. If I buy Mark5 or OM-D M-E1 Marck2 or 3 will it be the same game? I don't speak English, however I watch your posts around because I understand half of what we share. I don't trust to ask anyone. You have 5 days to return. Whether you answer or not Thank you very much!
@ForsgardPeter
@ForsgardPeter 2 жыл бұрын
It is hard to say. When using high ISO you need to have he exposure spot on. If the image is underexposed then it is really hard to recover the details and there will be noise. About mount. That is also hard to say what is wrong. Does it affect the photos?
