This is one of the first video I shot with my new rearranged studio setup (the other is the 7Artisans 28mm f/5.6 review), do you like this setup? Or do you prefer my older studio setup?

The character of the lens seems very much like the full frame TTartisan 50 0.95, which is one of my favourite lenses.

Great review as always, Richard! I see F2 as the sweet spot in many cases for this lens. F2 is still bright enough for a lot of uses, so considering the price tag and the performance at F2 I really think this is great value. I also love the flare patterns, very filmic!

you can get the same sharpness at 1.4 from the 50mm 1.2

Man I would love a side by side review of the 7artisans 50mm f0.95, seeing this...super curious on which to go for. Great review mate =)

Depends on your camera. I use sony a lot and heard this TTArtisan could cover full-frame too, so I can use it on my 6600 and 7RIV, very affordable. I got mine yesterday, the first impression is very good, still testing it. And if the Zebra design of TTArtisan is your thing, I think you can go for TTArtisan.

Thx for the fast review, Richard! Looks like I'll stick to my Kamlan 50mm f1.1 Mark II for the moment.

yeah if you already have a Kalmlan 50 1.1 then probably just stick with it :) having said that, I still haven't try that lens myself!

@@TheRealRichardWong you def should try the MK II (The MK I is pretty much subpar and not worth trying). Quite acceptable sharpness for a f1.1. The reduced contrast wide open gives portraits and street shots a slight vintage flair. I love my Kamlan 50mm f1.1 mk II. Only downside for me is the heavy construction (over 600g).

Nice informative review, Richard. I really have a faible for these exotic lenses. . I tested the 7artisans version and it behaved very similiar to this lens.

 @Carlos André Viana I want to compare with the TTArtisan 50 1.2 (which you really can't beat in terms of value for money) unfortunately my sample for 50 1.2 is micro four thirds and 50 0.095 is fuji apsc so can't really compare :(

God I'm tempted to take one of these out to Duder regional park and try for star photography. The softness in the corners worries me though, and 50mm is so tight for astrophotography. Hmmmm. Tricky. I'm having trouble thinking of another use case for me in day to day...
@TheRealRichardWong
@TheRealRichardWong 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Andrew, it might not be the best choice for astrophotography. Probably best for portrait or anything doesn't need great corner sharpness/details at wide open

Hi Great review and nice background music...Thx to you I already every TT avaible for MFT what about their other 50mm lens which cost 100$ less worth the upgrade? I am mostly a videografer and love Zhongghie Spedmaster T1 trio...which is in the warmer side and I was looking for 50mm T1 0,95 to match them do you think it could be an alternative? Yours Fil
@TheRealRichardWong
@TheRealRichardWong 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you Filip! The TTArtisan 50 1.2 is great value for money, if you already have that, i will just keep using that. Unless you really want the 0.95, which does look quite a bit different to the 1.2. The picture quality of this lens is really decent for it's price, but the problem using this 50 0.95 for video is that the focus ring has quite a short focus throw, so it might be a bit hard to nail the focus compare to the Zhongyi Cine lens.

I tend to evaluate lenses with my Panasonic/Leica Summilux f1.4 25mm.Which is unfair to compare a TTartisans lens with a Panasonic/Leica $500 equivalent. My TTartisans lens so far are excellent ! However even though this is a fast 50mm lens for me a micro 4/3rds is not my fixed lens of choice.
@TheRealRichardWong

yeah pretty much all the TTArtisan lenses I've tried are very decent and great value for money! And yeah choose a lens by looking at the focal length you need instead of just because it's a nice lens :)

I don’t fully get the point of lenses like this. Looking at the characteristics, they seem most suitable for portraiture, but with such a shallow depth of field I really prefer to have AF. So I would advise to save a little more and get the Sigma 56mm/1.4
@edwinadrianta9455
@edwinadrianta9455 2 жыл бұрын
for me, the f0.95 helps when I want to keep the ISO low during the low light shooting. In addition, I really like the character that I get from the lens. Every picture becomes unique and challenge you. Sigma 56mm f1.4 is brilliantly sharp if that's what we want to achieve.

Your reviews are simply amazing. I havr noticed you have used the GH6 for this review. Which means you've kept it:-) How do you like it so far? Does it pair well with this lens for video? (MF of course).
@TheRealRichardWong
@TheRealRichardWong 2 жыл бұрын
hey Amal, thank you Yes i've switched to the GH6 for my youtube videos now, i like it more than the S5. Better quality and more features. It should pair quite well with this lens if you want a short telephoto lens for low light or shallow DOF.

Looks good value... but i'd probably rather get a 50/55/58mm vintage lens for half the price. Better optics but no auto-focus of course.
@TheRealRichardWong
@TheRealRichardWong 2 жыл бұрын
I love vintage lenses too! But a nice condition clean fast vintage is not cheap. especially 0.95 one. And would be much much bigger than this TTartisan, even before you add in an adaptor
@halfalligator6518
@halfalligator6518 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheRealRichardWong Not sure about that. A good F1.4 Takumar lens could be found for less than half the price and they're pretty small even with an adapter. But yeah... each to their own. Depends how important that F/0.95 is I guess. If you need it, you need it and brand new is a great incentive too. This Artisan lens does look like a great buy - I'm not denying that.

Hey Richard, did you need to do calibrating on the lens before being able to use it? I read that everyone who gotten this lens, needed to do so, least for the version of this lens made for Leica mount?
@TheRealRichardWong
@TheRealRichardWong 2 жыл бұрын
No need. For mirrorless camera because we just usually focus by looking through byhe evf/LCD to check focus, so you just adjust the focus until your subject is in focus. For Leica M lens that supports rangefinder coupling, it's a bit different as you are usually not using the evf/LCD to verify focus so you need to calibrate to make sure the focus preview through the optical rangefinder matches what you will get
