Ma Lin would still be a first-class player even at the age of 42, but he took a different path and did that well too. Vladimir Samsonov, Timo Boll. Fortunately, the line of sports legends is long in this difficult competitive sport.

Apparently the time warning against Ma Long ticked him off....as he aggressively became more dominant and rattled off several consecutive points thereafter. There is much to learn from watching both of these legends. Thanks for uploading this video.

Ma long is the best player of all times. Because is really good of everthing(Backhand, forehand, flick...). But Jan Ove Waldner is really good and the second best player in his times. In my opinión in our times. Fan Zhendong is the second best player of 2020 and Xu Xin he is the best third player in the world.

The authorities can do all they want, change the dimension of the ball, change the material of the ball - it's going to take a miracle to beat the Chinese. These guys live and die for this. You change the ball to make it out of sponge, within a year the Chinese will become world champions in that format too.

+Mark Coen Yes. Maybe it is hard to believe but it's obvious that ITTF is doing whatever they can to stop China. They changed the number of players of each country for men's single (Before it was 3 players, now it's only 2 so the whole China national team can't win gold, silver and bronze medal), they changed the material of the ball so now it's heavier, slower and harder to spin the ball (everybody knows China is spin-speed oriented) while europeans are mostly speed oriented, so the ball affected too much to China. Once, I dont remember when exactly, ITTF banned the whole China team for nothing. After Zhang Jike kicked those banners, he got a 65k$ fine. Should I continue??

@ 8:06 Ma Long blocked the tremendous forehand with an angle so the ball bent on return otherwise Ma Lin could have unleashed another loop drive to counter. Precision top skill 👍

Ma Long played a very cerebral game. Ma Lin is a monster that can unleash at any moment. Ma Long played an extremely smart game to deny Ma Lin any comfort zone. It was very impressive. Plus Ma Lin was obviously making many unforced errors and frustrated with himself.

You can't beat Ma Lin with aggressive approach. He himself was the most aggressive player ever. Mind gave was very important to beat him. Ma Long and Timo Boll are the smartest paddlers.

I'm not sure whether he would have beaten Zhang in the finals. I think way too many people take that for granted because of Ma's positive record against Zhang. But Zhang in his prime was a beast in major tournaments.

I am so nostalgic of this era of table tennis, I have a hard time knowing why exactly. Is this the angle? The ball? The pace? Is the way table tennis played nowdays just better to win? Or is there almost no difference and it's just me remembering the first time where 12 years old me stumbled across those videos?
