Decided to replay the game on 100% few days ago, and man, your guides have been helpful AND fun to watch at the same time. I was missing just 1 monolith in southern zone, but sat through the whole video till the end. You deserve it. Btw, I am stealing "he'll walk it off" phrase, if you don't mind)

I didn't know what to do about the Archer so I spent a lot of time just running around the outskirts of the platform taking pot shots here and there while tons of mines collected in the center. Managed to get her down to about 1/2 health. At some point she landed in the middle right as I (accidentally) triggered a massive chain reaction, killing her. Took me a second to figure out what the hell happened.

Yeah, called it didn't I ;) there really needs to be a way to deactivate that turret. I think it may be the only secret that's in an area you can't make "safe". Glad you got them all now! Also glad you're using the timestamps :)

In a way I guess that's the only reason it was difficult to find which is a nice twist. People aren't typically looking for secrets in battle like that. At least it was the only one like that and there was lots of cover nearby. Yeah good work on the vids for sure, I'm probably gonna have to use them to find the last few gearbits and keys I'm missing.

+kairoGC I had a chance to talk to the Dev. He said there were 176 Gearbits, and he was adding 9 in the (then upcoming, but now current) patch.

A nice trick I used for the mini boss with all the projectiles, is if you have the ability to reflect projectiles. When he does his dash and summons the little guys again, stay on top of all of them, wait a second, and then do a 3 swing combo. It will reflect every projectile into the boss and basically insta kill him.

encountering tf2 heavy in the sky factory was super scary i thought what could hurt going in without saving then tf2 heavy derk appeared and my heart dropped now.... ive followed your hyper light drifter video's so i got 12 keys i tried the enemy rush area and the first one i chose accidentally being the 4th area where i encountered heavy derk for the first time seeing him in the sky arena made me scared

25:36 I call shenanigans on this one (to the developers)! I was looking for those damn symbols on the floor to indicate secrets. This was the only triangle I couldn’t find. There was nothing to indicate something was down there.

The last gearbit is in town. The area of the health store, there's an alley tha leads to a 16 Key door that has not also the last gearbit, but the Challenge rooms with wave based enemy fights. They are really cool.

Dash poke doesn't do much unless you knock an enemy into stuff with it, or if you bank them off a few walls it can potentially kill a five HP dude in one shot. And you can knock enemies into each other. The impacts I think are 2 damage each

Timestamps are live! Though I've been thinking, would it be better to group them by type? I've just been doing them in the order of the video. Which would you prefer?

+Tterraj42 leave it like that. there are two approaches. getting everything or getting a specific kind. if you group them up. people trying to get one kind (e.g. gearbits) have it slithly easier, but the ones looking for everything, so, a chronical order (like now) will have a hard time lining up the timestamps one-by-one. the ones looking for a specific kind dont have it too hard now and will only benefit of such a change by a little amount.

Fair point. But wouldn't the group that gets everything just watch the whole video? I guess the timestamps let you skip ahead a bit at a time.

it adds to clarity, they can backtrack if they got everything. that being in the right order helps.

I saw the pink drifter die in the east, then die again in the west, then die a third time at the south. It was nice that I got his outfit before fighting my second boss

I don't know if it was added in a later patch but there was a secret path to the north of the platform at 41:01, it leads to another gear bit

projectile deflection is the best upgrade. I loved that boss with the giant energy balls. I just played volleyball with him till he dropped the floor. Then when he first brought out the 4 energyballs I just slashed them all back in his face one before he got to throw them. instakill.

I combined projectile deflection with the giant charge slash for that boss; he got freakin' murdered. I was deflecting around 10-20 projectiles back at him with each slash. He only lasted like 30 seconds, lol.

that first boss was really tough the first time then i just trucked thru him with point blank shotgun blasts and sword slashes on the 3rd or 4th try and only got hit once. weird one. I didn't take the time to see how simple his pattern was.

The 2nd boss that throws the bombs, I find it easier to hit the bombs at him because they do 2 or 3 damage I never checked but it speeds it up and you can still combo them after. But the archer boss blocking the projectiles is basically impossible.

finally seeing you play with a setup other than the starter cloak, sword, and sprite makes me feel the need to ask the question: What do you think the most optimal (and stylish) costume combination is? I believe right now I have blue sprite, purple sword, and yellow cloak. I honestly think purple is one of the most helpful costumes because of the 2x stamina. I havent unlocked the fuchsia, black, or ochre equipment yet, but I know ochre is a huge helper. Thanks for any feedback you can give me! I have been playing this game for only about three days, and I have followed your guides extensively. It may sound funny, but just from watching your north and east walkthroughs I was able to get almost all of the secrets in the west on my own because I've begun to pay attention to the little details you had pointed out in your videos like the little stones to show an unseeable hole in the wall! SORRY FOR RANTING BUT KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! Also, it would be amazing if you uploaded some speedrun routes for HLD. Honestly this game (and in turn you) has/have made me want to start doing speedruns. Another game I want to start speed running is Lovely Planet. +Woodson Gaming I go over Equipment Sets in the final video. I really like Fuchsia for more ammo. It's hard to argue against using Purple, but that requires 800 dashes, so... The most optimal equipment set just depends on what challenge you're tackling and your play style. As for speedruns, I'm not the best at it, so I'd defer to the leaderboards for good examples of runs: www.speedrun.com/hld There's also a discord server where all the runners hang out and share strats / help with setups.I can get you an invite to that if you want. 40:00 With the Grim Reaper boss I didn't even mean to but when I entered the room he charged right at me and I dodged. When I did the platforms blocking the path behind me rose and the boss got stuck behind there and died. Not sure if this was known but it certainly would be useful for a speed runner. It did make one of the gearbits spawn behind a wall though when I went back to collect them after entering the next room.

heh, guess that's still in the game. I've only seen it once, not sure if any runners use the trick, but I also forget if the route even fights that boss. Good find though, and thanks for sharing :) were you able to get the Gearbit later, or was it always stuck?

Well I went back and two of them spawned in the room but one of the Gearbits was permanently stuck behind the wall that the Reaper died behind. Certainly not for 100% completion.

if I throw a grenade a moment before the drones of this mini boss attack, and attacking with sword and shots, deflecting and throwing another grenade at the drones, is not it easier than just trying to dodge all the drones' projectiles?

Just to let you know there is a glitch in the game where after you beat the bosses in the south.... If you beat all the bosses then you go back to them later you can pick up gear bits for each boss again. There will be just one gear bit over the body.

I think the last Gearbit you didnt get is behind the key door in town, just before the lift to the challenge rooms and kickstarter backer monoliths.

The southern zone is supposed to be the (second of) last area since you must complete other three. This also means that this is the hardest area because there are more than 1 boss in there. This also got to be my favorite zone.

perhaps, but each player's experience may very. Especially depending on your playstyle and upgrade choice. I was pretty pleased with the difficulty curve on my first playthrough. I'd also say it's my favorite area to replay, boss fights are my favorite part of the game :)

The one you are missing that bit, you win it in a game of football. Go to the gun upgrade shop, keep going left. You will see a 2x2 blocked path. They have arrows on them (north and west arrow directions. Go south into that. There is one more you can earn by doing the finger/thumb breaking.. I mean dash training exercise.

Btw there is a secret path after secret path and that's where is 1 last gear bit. There is a hint to south after passing hidden path at 20:04. Hidden path after hidden path. Sounds sneaky.

Perhaps Power Module 3 at 25:35 ? It's a hidden switch south of the hidden patch you backtrack to. This game did have a few secrets within secrets moments.

It's a tough one. Bonking the walls can sometimes be used to dodge the spikes. I got lucky with that once. Keep trying and you'll get it :)

I hear about this now and then, it's very rare, and I don't know how to fix it. Are you playing on the latest version? The only thing I know to try is restarting the game and getting it again, but sounds like you tried that. I'd message the devs or submit a bug.

The symbols on the blocks are clues. They correspond to the Terminals you activate at the end of each area. Try clearing West then come back.

the boss with the orbs i got combo by him from full health to death. he used his four orbs and i tried to reflect it. epic failed got hit twice immediately by him and fell down the hole and that was all my health haha #getrekt !!!

38:44. Easy to beat. stand on one side, let him throw his scythe. When it returns, he charges at you. while that is happening charge attack through him and move to the far other side. Repeat.

i got to the platform at 27:55 . you just have to line it up exactly with trial and error, sure to compensate for the isometric game's difficult to grasp hitboxes. theres nothing there though

if you drift up the ledge where the final gun is and fall down, u can see in the edge there's a platform there. don't know how to reach it though

I don't think any Gearbit drops were removed. You probably already have that one. It's very tough to track down the final Gearbit. There's a save file analyzer if you're on PC.

Very odd. This is the second time I've heard this happen. It must be a bug in some version of the game. All I can think is to make sure you're up to date, and check the location again. If that doesn't work, message the devs what version your game is, and (if known) what version you created the save / got the set the first time on.

+FraN PocalipsE all skeletons seem to be indestructible until you take their items, and equipment sets are kinda weird in that you can pick them up every time you enter the area (unless the patch fixed that). So there's no risk of losing it.

+CrewComedy have you watched the final secrets video? Maybe it's one of the newer ones. Everything is timestamped though, so you'll find it eventually. Tracking down that last Gearbyte is tough though... good luck! Oh, I think they also added one for Soccer in the latest patch, not sure what else.
