In which I review the Robotech TTRPG by Strange Machine Games, which is VERY different to the Palladium version. Very.
Please like, subscribe and help grow the channel by recommending videos you like (or dislike) to your friends.
A lot of the time I use Teknoaxe music, so it's easier to put the attribution here all the time! teknoaxe.com/Home.php - Sometimes I use White Bat Audio as well.
If it's not Teknoaxe, it's probably Bass Rebels, here on KZfaq.

"See... I can get you what you want, I can. I can get you anything, you just have to talk to me, you have to trust me. You can trust me, 'cause I'm your priest, I'm your shrink... I am your main connection to the switchboard of the soul. I'm the magic man... Santa Claus of the subconscious. You say it, you think it, you can have it."

The key to mech combat in Palladium was any weapon with a Standard Rate of Fire+missile volleys. That aside was not aware of this, and despite having matured into the actual Macross series from which part of Robotech was Frankensteined, We are intrigued.

Reminding me partly of Mekton 2, Mekon Z, Mekton Empire, etc.

Speaking of footballers, recent higher realism football anime, "Giant Killing". The opening theme is a Japanese band doing Flogging Molly style Celtic pub rock. It won't make ya like sports, but it was well written and animated well.

Macek withdrew the license after the Robotech Tactics debacle as I recall, and after he passed his estate relinquished their death grip on the IP. Thats how I recall it. I love Robotech so I hope this means the Macross animes will now finally get a US release - but so far all we have got is shovelware board games and this game.

Invid Inavasion is best invasion - so to speak. To get Cyclone bikes the loss of civilization is a small price to pay. I have these but haven't had a chance to get in-depth with them yet. Eye candy, though.

Huge Macross Fan. Original ONLY, Macross II not so bad , but continually diminishing returns. As a young kid I owned all the palladium books, still have them. We heavily modified play just to have fun. Would really love for this to be a fun game. I do enjoy dice pools. Sounds very MYZ type of system. Ill put this on the if On Sale list.

How can you hate football? While many of its most avid followers are undoubtedly among the lowest of life forms to pollute the planet, is your soul not stirred by the immortal Yoo Dae-soon, who spent his entire - all-too brief - professional career at Yukong Elephants? Here, surely, is an epitaph fit for a king.

As much as I have fond memories of palladium games like rifts, there is no way in hell my players would deal with palladium rules. For the same reason, I never got into robotech. May check this out just to see if it works

Well then fans are screwed. Disney abhors physical media, loves to dump stuff in "the vault" and is generally disrespectful to translating foriegn media. Look to their brief ownership of the US Ghibli license. What physical media was released was insanely expensive.

Are there any other Mech games you recommend?

Heavy Gear, Mekton (but less so), FATE works surprisingly well for mecha-dramas.

The Mecha Hack. Light and easy to run, simple roll under mechanics, and the price is right. Both the core book and the Mission Manual are cheap buys and provide even random tables for callsigns and mission events. Modules (special weapons/abilities) are plentiful and varied. No one in my gaming group has ever had a problem with it and enjoyed it. Generally, no setting but they provide one as a suggestion, with some kaiju like enemies.

I also would recommend Gundam 5e (As that is free) But may be a poor substitute for proper Mecha RPGs (as it's D&D5e converted via fan efforts to Gundam's Universal Century setting), it also has a discord which has channels that sometimes fire up with campaigns looking for players. I wound up playing that after WotC screwed up badly in the year of our lord 2022-2023.

Jovian Chronicles is the same system as Heavy Gear, but the setting is more like Gundam or The Expanse while Heavy Gear is more like Votoms.

You know given the volume of gear out for Gundam how the hell has ot not spawned a ttrpg and minitures game ? I did used to own the old Palladium game and a graphic novel 😂

Probably because the rights holder for Gundam maintains a deathgrip on the IP and I dont think they care much for non-Japanese fans....and rpgs arent as big in Japan.

Give it a chance. Posh Spice ran a playest for us and it was quite fun. It took time to get used to rolling knuckle bones for dice, but it made it more realistic and immersive.

🤔 Not Palladium? Is it a Chinese knock off? You never ramble too... ok twice you rambled too much. 😉

Considering there are TWO Robotech RPGs currently available I would say yes. There is this thing and there is a Savage Worlds version from Battlefield Press. Both can be found on Drivethrurpg.

Decent enough review. I'm a big fan of this game. It is far and away the best Robotech RPG ever. It really captures the essence of the series and allows you to play anything you want from the saga, even enemies. I disagree about the inclusion of adventures in the core rulebook. I always appreaciate as many adventures as I can get my hands on.
