Storyline :-
Widower Amar[ashok kumar] leads a middle-class lifestyle in Bombay along with his widowed mom, and a daughter, Munni[farida jalal], whose mom passed away just 3 days after giving birth and makes a living working as the Principal of Bharti Kala Kendra. When he goes for a vacation to Kashmir with his Butler, D'Souza[Sundar], he meets with and falls in love with a woman named Kalpana[padmini] and includes her in his painting. They meet several times and are drawn to each other. One day when Amar goes to propose, he finds out they have left for an unknown destination. When he returns home by train he meets with another young woman, Asha[ragini], who he subsequently hires as the Kendra's Dance Instructress. He takes her home to meet his mom, and Munni, and both approve of her hoping that she will marry Amar. Then Amar watches Kalpana performing a dance item in the theater, meets with her and both rekindle their romance. Asha notices this and steps away... Written by rAjOo

આ ગીત ની રચના તો કમર જલાલા બાદી એ કરેલી છે....જ્યારે મહમદ રફીએ અને મન્નાડે એ ગાયેલું છે.અને મધુર તર્જ/ધૂન તો શ્રી ઓ પી નૈયરે તૈયાર કરેલી છે... એટલે આ સુંદર ગીત ની સુંદરતા ટીમ વર્ક છે.

It's beautiful classical song in raag 'Lalit' from film 'Kalpana' (1960) rendered by duo Rafi Sahib & Manna Da. Urdu poet 'Qamar Jalalabadi' so beautifully wrote this song using pure hindi words admirably & above all Nayyar Sahib composed this song in great 'Lalit Raag' which is still popular among music lovers.

Om Prakash Bhandari was the birth name of the lyricist, Qamar Jalalabadi, which became his nom de plume as that title was bestowed on him since he was a resident of Jalalabad near Amritsar and "Qamar" means the moon. He wrote both in Hindi and Urdu. He was famous for many hits like, "Main toh ek khwab hoon.." and "Aaj paheli tareek hai."

Only Rafi and Manna Da could have done justice to this song. That OP Nayyar composed this song is a surprise to me. Padmini and Ragini are masters of dance and have done a great job. It's so beautiful to watch, but I am sure dancers will know how difficult some of their moves are and what's most important is the grace in their dancing which is rare to see these days. Listening to this for the first time.. Thanks for a lovely video.

I think the classical bits were sung by a proper classical singer. Otherwise the main intro and middle parts were peerlessly sung by Manna and Rafi.

Beautiful classical duet of O P Nayyerji, who had very few classical score in his credit, but has has used two legendary singers ( Rafiji & Mannada) who are normally the best in classical songs. I like this immortal song and so is music of Nayyerji. Also Dance score of Padminiji and Raginiji in comparable.

In the films like Kalpana (1960) & Raagini (1958) O.P.Nayyar has composed some classical songs (which is exceptional in his career). All songs are just outstanding. I think it's the toughest duet song among Rafi sahab & Manna Dey duets.

By composing this song based on Raag LALIT, OPN has proven his talent in and knowledge of shaastriya sangeet. This is probably the first time OPN has worked with Qamar Jalalabadi and Manna Da. Great Legendry singers Rafisaab & Mannada alongwith OP Saheb and the sisters Padmini-Ragini have stolen the Show. Rafisaab voice very smoothly goes very very up and smoothly goes down.

इसे कहते है क्लासिकल प्ले बैक सिंगिंग और सिंगर्स रफी साहब और मन्नाडे दा क्या किशोर दा ने इन दोनो सिंगर्स के साथ ऐसी क्लासिकल प्ले बैक सिंगिंग की है नही तो फिर क्यों नासमझ किशोर दा के फैंस रफी साहब से किशोर दा की तुलना करते है । बाकी आप समझदार है ।
