Suzuki stopped the production so you were very lucky. I got the last one 2019 model, very very happy with it! Two years warranty, 350Km with a full tank!

You keep saying "beginner bike" as if a person can't be happy with keeping this bike to ride for years. Why is it assumed that everyone must "upgrade"?

i wonder that as well. if all you want is a light bike, why do you need something bigger??

I'm considering one as well the Honda rebel as well as the Yamaha v-star 250 the foot rests seem a lot more forward than the tu. Also a big plus is the efi.

Yeah, I find it strange that both of the Rebel and V Star 250 are carb'd... I personally don't care for the riding position on the smaller cruisers. If I were in the market again for a small displacement bike I'd go for the TU again, but I'd also consider the SR400 (kickstarter only though, ugh), the Ducati Scrambler Sixty2 (but so expensive), or anyone of the ~300cc sport bikes on the market (they are just a lot of fun to look at IMO). Nonetheless -- the TUX is so much fun, and the 2016 is orange!

I'm in Colorado and don't see many of these. I am very interested, and as a novice, but having driven small bikes (125cc) in Asia, I feel like this one is similar, fine for my needs, and looks awesome. I passed on one I saw posted online; a 2011 with high mileage and still kinda pricey as listed. I am now considering a 2009 with under 4k miles for $1500. Still a good buy in 2019?
@PeterStreusel
@PeterStreusel 4 жыл бұрын
That sounds like a great price to me. Under 4k miles is solid. Just consider it may be due for a valve clearance check soon since it barely made it there (probably about $1K) and you'll likely need new tires (I bet they've never been changed, that's another $400) All that being said, I would say that as long as most of your rides are around town and not long interstate stretches, the 250 will work solid! However, if you're getting on the interstate for 30-45 minute commutes, the little extra power of a 600 or 750 certainly won't hurt. I think if you were looking at a high mileage 250 from the early 2000s it would still be about $1K. Let me know what you decide to do!

@04:30 : "... or one of the newer 300 sport bikes, everybody's moving up 50 cc because of the zero laws ..." What are the zero laws?
@PeterStreusel
@PeterStreusel 5 жыл бұрын
"Euro" laws -- there are regulations in Europe about how much power a bike can produce for those with new licenses. I don't know all the details but it has led to a move from production of the 250cc to the 300cc beginner bike for a lot of companies.

is this good bike enough for me to switch to ZX636R maybe after 2k miles on TU250X? I wanna get to ZX6R as fast as possible but kinda scary for a first timer...
@PeterStreusel
@PeterStreusel 7 жыл бұрын
Interesting question... It really depends on the rider, but I think the majority of people need at least a year (think 5K-10K) before moving on to something as powerful as the ZX6R. The TU250X will certainly get you ready, but you may want to start on a Ninja 250 (or something similar) to get more accustomed to the riding position and similar controls.

Really considering getting one for a first bike! Whats the max speed on it?
@PeterStreusel
@PeterStreusel 7 жыл бұрын
Matt Thompson -- I got up to about 85 max. You can cruise between 65-70 pretty comfortably but it won't maintain 80 without some effort. It's a great starter bike or city bike though! Really loved both of the TU250s I've owned now.

How would the Suzuki TUX handle highway speed?
@PeterStreusel
@PeterStreusel 7 жыл бұрын
It is just okay at highway speeds. I didn't have a problem getting her up to 65/70ish, but past that is a stretch. Up a big hill on the interstate is definitely in the slow lane. It depends on where you are honestly. Maybe the bigger issue than top speed is just the slow acceleration. If you're somewhere with constant traffic, it won't matter, and if you're somewhere that is relatively flat and you can get away with interstates at 65/70 then you'll be fine. Otherwise, she'll get the job done, you just may be holding some folks up here and there.

Peter Streusel I live in Chicago so there aren't to many big inclines here. but given the choice between the TU250 and the Yamaha SR400 which one would you buy?
@PeterStreusel
@PeterStreusel 7 жыл бұрын
Ooo, that is a tough one man. I haven't personally ridden the SR400, but I've done a lot of research and talked with several folks who own them. Here is the thing, I really believe these are pretty much the same in terms of power and top speed. The SR 'might' be a little quicker, but everyone I've talked to says it is the same basic power output as a 250. The TUX claims 80 mpg (I can attest that this is true) while the SR is 66 mpg -- but among friends, once you get past 50 mpg, does it really matter?? They are nearly the same in size, but the TUX is 326lbs and the SR is 384lbs (the heavier bike may be nicer at interstate speeds). The primary difference is styling, and that the SR400 has a kick starter -- no push button electronic start, at all. So, all that being said, the question IMO comes down to styling and confidence. Which looks better to you? If you're a new rider, are you ready to kick start the bike if you crank down at a red light or stop sign, or worse, in stop and go traffic? If you're a little heavier, the SR is probably more comfortable... Here is my answer, if I could choose either for my wife again, I'd still get the TUX, but if I were getting one for me today, I'd do the SR. Hope this is a least a little helpful... Thanks for watching Jonathan!

Me too! I took my class on a 750 Buell. I popped a wheelie and launched it into the ground after letting go of the clutch to quickly. Never would have happened on the TUX... much prefer it for a beginner.
