Originally from Christchurch , New Zealand , I can recall playing golf early Sunday mornings in winter when the grass was frozen white with severe frosts , the only way to find your ball was by using a fleuro coloured one ! Fond memories .

Hi Lads, I doubt you'll ever even see this comment but on the off chance, I'll write it anyway. I read your interview (tubes) where you spoke about how golf has saved your life from alcoholism and it really struck a chord with me. I've been going through a bit of a rough patch for the past while, the bird left, I've ended up out of work and been drinking myself into oblivion. I've struggled with alcohol since my early 20s but over the past while it really became a problem. Then one night a couple of months ago, Hamish, my younger brother gave me an old set of clubs and told me to come with him to the driving range for a thrash instead of sitting in the house draining cans of Stella all night. I hadn't swung a club since I was about 15 and had never really been that interested, but after I made that first solid connection with the old Dunlop driver, heard the ting as the face hit the ball and saw it sail downrange.. I knew I was hooked. It has since become an addiction. I've replaced one expensive hobby with an even more expensive one, but at least it's actually making me happy. I've replaced most of the old clubs I was given with better second-hand ones from my local place (shout out to Golf Clubs 4 Cash in Loanhead) who were absolutely brilliant, didn't mind any of my stupid newbie questions and sorted me out with some new bits and pieces. I've been out playing a few times a week since I picked the game up and it has given me a reason to stay sober. Not just because nobody wants to swing clubs when they're hanging out their own arse, but because I want to put all of that money away and buy a new SIM 2 driver.. So, what I really want to say is thanks for sharing so much in that interview. It's made me feel like I'm not alone in my situation. I've been clean and sober for 12 days now, and I'm not cracking under the pressure. Committed to the Golf Life. Soon, it'll be the only life I know. Cheers, G
