Tudor Black Bay 58 Blue Loves And Hates: Owner's Take On The New 2021 BB58 925- Is It Worth Buying?

Tudor just released the new Black Bay 58 925 with a case made of silver. This will likely be THE watch of Watches and Wonders 2021. Tudor shocked us by introducing a solid yellow gold version with a green dial and bezel to round up the two new precious metal variants of the BB58. The BB58 925 comes with more changes. Now the entire case has a brushed finish and most importantly it now has a sapphire exhibition case back which makes it the first Black Bay and only the second ever watch from Tudor to have one.
Despite the excitement, last year’s release, the Black Bay 58 Blue is still as popular as ever. I have owned the Black Bay Blue since the release, and the new Silver BB58 925 really got me thinking about what I love and what I hate about my watch, which I will go into in detail. So the main question remains: should I sell the BB58 Blue and get the BB58 925 in its place?

I’m really excited to see the BB 58 925 in person, I agree in the sense that I think it’ll be an excellent addition especially due to its uniqueness, offhand I cannot think of a single other watch made out of silver!

Can't wait to see it! Yeah they actually complement each other bc they're so different in look and feel so it's going to be a tough decision. Yeah other than ochs und junior I can't of anyone else, let alone any giant brands who do silver watches. So cool Tudor decided to go for it!

Another fantastic review! I can relate to your desire for more unique watches in your collection. I find myself in a similar place. I’ve been enamored with the Tudor Heritage Chrono Blue “Monte Carlo” for quite some time. The dial is unique, yet has historical significance. The movement is out of date and it only has a 42 hr power reserve, however. Would love to see your comparison of the new Black Bay Chronos vs Heritage Chrono Blue and G&S. My AD did not have the new Chronos as of last week. Love your channel! Thank you!

Thank you so much!! Omg I completely forgot about the heritage chrono!! The first time I wore it and saw that it had a rotating bezel I fell in love with it. The color combo and the layout looks sooooo cool and it was unusually comfortable on wrist. I think I might have to start digging around the secondary market! I'd love to get my hands on the new chronographs the addition of the black bezel made such a big difference alongside the panda variations. Fingers crossed I'll be able to do a video on them soon!

I very recently (Nov 2021) bought the Black Bay 58 Navy Blue to compliment a range of predominantly black-dialled watches in my collection that include the classic Rolex Submariner Date 16610 that I've owned for 19 yrs. The Tudor is a super, very well-made luxury timepiece and I appreciate its rather understated blue dial and bezel compared to the 'bling-blue' ceramic of my Omega Seamaster 300. Like-for-like think of the Blue 58 as a more modern take on its original black and gilt sibling. The blue really pops in daylight or in well-lit rooms and a pleasure to wear. Although not quite up there with the Rolex Sub in the absolute quality stakes - but why should it when barely 35% of the retail price - go to an AD and try one on. In-house COSC certified movement, 70 hrs power reserve, staggering lume.... you won't be disappointed.

I'm a fabricator/welder by trade and the bracelet didn't quite fit me either. I had to drill some extra holes to get the right fit. Turned out great. My endlinks didn't rattle like yours did. Anywho, good video

Oh wow that's awesome and your skills definitely saved a bit off money too😂! Yeah I've been considering getting a fourth set of microadjustment holes at my AD but in the back of my mind I knew that there was a slight chance of selling it so I backed off. Although I'm sure for some people buying it with the extra set of holes might add value lol

Great video. I got a Tudor bb58 about a year ago, (mid 2000) and there is really not the play that you showed in the end links on mine.

Thanks man!! Yeah it really does seem like my loose endlink problem is an isolated one. The only weird thing is that the other black bays in the AD showcase were loose too! I'm sure it's an easy warranty fix tho thankfully

Interesting vid, I had the 925 side by side with the BB58 Blue last weekend. Ended up going for the blue, the washed out grey and open case back really didn’t work for me sadly. The blue just looked so much richer and more interesting...in the end it was a very easy choice.

Nice! Yeah I've since bought the 925 and did a video with both and I realized how different the two watches really are which is great bc they can coexist in my collection for a while! I love the tool watch aesthetic and grey dials on watches in general so the 925 just happened to work for me perfectly😄 The blue bay is a great watch for sure and the blue color is really well done definitely a bold color without being too bold so congratulations on the new watch!! It'll be fun to wear during the summer👍👍

Automatic watches with a solid caseback should be illegal. There should never be a watch with an auto movement and a solid caseback.

I saw the BB58 925 in person yesterday at my Tudor AD. It looked fantastic. I was surprised to find it very small, much to small for me. I liked the Pelagos and black dialed Heritage Chrono better for me.

I finally have it and I agree it looks awesome!! Silver gives the watch a totally unique wearing experience! Yes the Pelagos is incredible it was the first watch to earn keeper status I love the brutal efficiency of the whole thing from the color combo to the clasp The heritage chrono is such a cool watch and I love that it has a rotating bezel and that it looks unlike any other chronograph although I do wish it cost less tho!

I haven't noticed those issues with the bracelet before, but now that you point it out I can't stop noticing them. Crazy issues for a watch of that price Also it was nice to see you another Zodiac Sherbet -- I have one as well and love it! Definitely can't wear it with everything, but it gets a lot of wrist time in the summer. I've enjoyed trying different tropic rubber straps with it (blue, orange, or white can be fun, I just use the ~$8 ones off Ali express)

Yeah the bracelet has some bizarre issues with it! (And actually there are a few more issues that I didnt include in the video 😬) Thats so awesome that you have a sherbet too!!!! At one point I was considering selling it but EVERY TIME I put it on my wrist I just loved it so much. Actually at one point I was considering selling either the BB58 or the Sherbet and I then realized that I love the Sherbet way more! Yes I love it for the summer time and I think I'm going to take your advice and get myself a blue and orange rubber strap. I'm a bit boring when it comes to straps I always end up wearing grey straps 😂 Although I put it on the bracelet for the first time in ages and despite the polished midlinks I'm really enjoying it!

Great video. Weird about your end links. I have the black version and both on mine are solid. No play at all. Is this an issue with the blue only or perhaps just an issue with yours?

Yeah very weird about the endlinks and I thought that it was only my watch but my pelagos that i bought in 2017 also has the same problem (to a lesser extent) and many of the tudors in the display case at my AD had the same issue too! I guess its a Northern Virginia thing 😂

Can’t believe that the end links so loose, considering watches such as my San Martin Black Bay Homage has perfect endlinks which fit tight, and bracelet has enough adjustments.

I bought a Blue BB58 on the strap today. I saw the silver and loved it - but surprisingly the fabric strap completely obscures the sapphire caseback. Which kinda defeats the whole purpose. They're both amazing watches. Nothing between them.

Oh wow that's awesome huge congratulations!! Yes I still love my blue bay it definitely is a very different watch compared to the 925 so it's easy for them to coexist in my collection (for the time being at least 😬) It's definitely a great summer watch so you got it at the right time! Yeah and additionally as good as the fabric strap looks its bizarre to me that they managed to make the easiest type strap to change on any watch difficult by putting the spring bars physically in the actual strap😂! However If I were to wear it I think I'd skip over the integrated spring bar sleeves

Are you sure you are using oem spring bars with the bracelet? My endlinks do not move on the blue bb58. They did not move on the black one I had before.

Yeah all original! I always keep oem spring bars with the bracelet when I take it off. My Pelagos has this issue but not nearly as extreme and strangely enough most of all the other Tudor's at my AD had the loose endlink issue too!

I was debating between the bb58 blue or Monta ocean king. Which one would you choose?

Ooooo that's a good choice! The BB58 blue is a great watch oozes quality but it is much more expensive than a Oceanking. So between the two I would say go for the BB58 blue if you are a big fan of the looks and the specific aesthetic it offers. The Monta on the other hand is still really high quality however the price is much lower which is great so I think if you're liking the classic modern swiss dive watch look and feel then Monta is an awesome choice to get. If you don't feel strongly for the BB58 blue then the value that Monta is offering is incredible. So if I had to choose one for myself knowing what I know now about the BB58 blue then I would have chosen the Monta for sure. This is very similar to a choice I've been debating in my mind over the past few months actually. However instead of an Oceanking I wanted to sell my blue bay for the Skyquest. I love Monta bc the quality of the watch and bracelet is a step above and I loved that it had a GMT function and it has the classic modern swiss "dive" watch feel that I was missing ever since I sold my Seamaster 300 pro. I haven't made the move yet bc they unfortunately have a very strict return policy and at this point in time I didn't want to take a risk just yet. But I'm definitely planning on getting it at some point 😁

You should have Tudor replace your bracelet. My BB58 from 2018 doesn't have the issue with the end links. It is not flush with the case but the end links fit perfect and don't move.

Yeah at one point I was thinking of getting the spring bars replaced and then maybe just the end links but at this point it really might be easier to just have a new bracelet sent in as part of the warranty (hopefully I'll get to keep the original bracelet for all my troubles 😁). Fingers crossed that it works out ok!

@@thewatchidiot It looks slightly more taupe-is brown in direct light, which I thought would bother me, but the primary color remains gray. It's a cool that isn't going to leave you bored in a few years and it's certainly very versatile.

Yeah your description is spot on👍 I love that it's grey most of the time but it shows warmth every once in a while to keep things interesting. Also I love that it somehow ranges from dark grey to a very light grey. No idea how tudor managed to make a matte dial and bezel do that 😂

Yeah seems like mines the anomaly! And my Pelagos has the same issue so 2 anomalies which means I've got a pretty rare duo here😂😂

I do not have that issue with the loose endlinks with my BB58 Blue. I'd get that checked out. And I'm not sure why everyone thinks these $4K watches should have microadjust. The faux rivets, proportions, etc tell you the story that this isn't meant to be a pure diver's watch, it's a luxury diver's watch that's vintage inspired. Not sure if I agree 100% with your analysis on the blue but like what you're doing with the silver...

Thanks man, the silver BB58 is an awesome watch for sure and I'm excited to see what it endsup looking like at the end of the summer! Yeah it seems like I'm just unlucky with the endlinks! Should be a simple fix with new endlinks. So to clarify I wouldnt want the black bay to have the Pelagos style quick adjustment clasp. That clasp would look pretty silly on a watch like the BB58 and I agree that the style of the BB58 bracelet is well suited to the watch. I just want a fourth hole in the clasp since there's clearly space for it! Either that or Tudor should make half links bc between the 3 holes and the relatively long links it leaves a gap in fitment where it is either too tight or too loose for a lot of people. Other than one Grand Seiko (no extra micro adjustment holes) I've never had any bracelet sizing issues on any other watch bracelet that I've owned!

Are you sure your spring bars are correct? That is a very weird amount of play in the end links. Mine is very tightly fitted.

I wish I had the wrong spring bars in! I always keep the factory spring bars on bracelets and the even weirder thing was that when I went back to my AD pretty much all the other black bays and Pelagos' had the same loose endlinks problem!! This one's definitely a head scratcher but I think I'll get the spring bars replaced in a last ditch effort 👍

Its a hodinkee strap! it was a gift so I cant remember which one it is exactly but i think the color is slate? Its a smooth leather not nubuck or suede if that helps narrow things down!

Yeah that seems to be the general consensus about the end link issue. I'm glad that everyone is speaking up in the comments bc it lets me know that this is a fixable problem! Weird thing is that my Pelagos has loose endlinks too! I guess im just really unlucky😂

Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed the video!! The grey leather strap is from Hodinkee I think the color was slate? And the nato is the standard nato in Sage from Crown and Buckle. The sage color is spot on I've never seen it anywhere else! Grey but with a light touch of green it's awesome 👍

Ah yes you're right it is the premium nato! Sorry about that, all I remember thinking about was the price of 12.50 which isnt a premium price which is awesome 😂 I cut the back part off myself! I do it with every single nato I get. Definitely gives me the best of both worlds👍👍

bb58 blue is just beautiful comparing with other top line watches including my PPs and Rolexes true good value purchase one thing could be improve is the grip on the crown winding is not as joyful as rolex but still not a problem at all just something minor could be better

Yes I love the Blue Bay, it oozes quality in every aspect of the watch! Yeah I agree with you about the crown for sure it is a little slippery. If it wasnt so big it would definitely be tough! Thankfully my Pelagos has a grippier crown but the winding while good on both just isnt like a Rolex for sure. Actually before my Pelagos was sent in for warranty work for the movement, the crown threading was really rough! Im glad it got fixed and came back much improved👍

I have a BB58 & GMT, The only thing that annoys me about the BB58 is the damn flying hour hand, that thing is is flying across the ocean about to get lost in the Bermuda Triangle. I like when hour hands sit close to the dial.

That end link issue should be raised with your AD as my Tudor BB58 blue end links are solid with zero movement. Just sent back my recent purchase of a BB36 as there were scratches on the bracelet. Tudor QC seems to be hit and miss but they still make good watches.

Yes for sure, I talked to my AD and they're ordering new endlinks since the spring bars were good to go. The same issue is happening with my Pelagos, albeit to a lesser extent. So I hear you when you say hit or miss😂 Still love my Pelagos dearly

Loooool I feel you it's the ever present question in the minds of all watch nuts "where do I stop" When I got my Pelagos 4 years ago I told my AD "wow I really don't think I'll need another watch after this one" and he just said "sure thing, you keep telling yourself that" and oh man was he right😂

I have the Black and am thinking about buying the blue but am worried about it being too navy and not the lighter blue you see in this video.

Loool I was the opposite at first I wanted it to be more navy!! However, the dial is very much blue and it's actually one of the most blue watches that I have in that it's always blue no matter the lighting conditions as opposed to my other darker blue watches that pretty much become black in darker conditions. The blue that you see in the video and in the thumbnail is pretty accurate to real life. I made sure to get it right bc it's happened too many times that photos and videos don't represent the watch correctly!! I think if you really want it you should go for it👍👍

Yeah the bracelet just is not made for me I guess! Hopefully I can get rid of the endlink problem but theres nothing to do about the lack of half links and the final microadjust hole unfortunately

Nice the nato it comes on is pretty awesome! But yeah as far as the loose endlink goes, it looksl like I was unlucjy bc so many people here are saying their endlinks are perfectly fine. But that being said I really havent missed the bracelet one bit bc Bb58 Blues look so incredibly good on natos and straps! It would have been nice to have the bracelet work and to have an extra microadjust hole so that I would have the option to wear it but I'm still happy👍 Glad you enjoyed the video!

Your loose end links are the exception it seem. Mine like the most here do not have such problem and the bracelet really feel comfortable and balance well with the watch head.

The leather strap i believe is the "aged grey leather strap." I got it as a gift so im only 95% sure on that. If this is what you're referring to I'll say that it is fairly grey in person although it does have a warm sandy tone to it. Either way it's awesome! (Also the nato strap is the premium nato strap in "sage" from crown and buckle. Looks grey but has a really nice green undertone to it its really cool!)

Oh my bad, I didn't realize I forgot the brand! The leather strap is from Hodinkee! I love it bc it's thin and soft but still relatively durable. But it is pricey so I'm glad it was a gift😂

I agree the BB58 has started to bore me looks wise. It’s a fantastic watch but I’ve had 3 now. Every time I get one I end up selling it again. I’ve now gone for the LHD Pelagos & the P01 much more interesting pieces.

Yeah its a great watch but thats all it is too me and I dont need and cant justify JUST having a great watch! It needs to have an x factor to stay in the collection and my pelagos definitely has that! The P01 is such a cool watch however the leather strap sits quite uncomfortably on my wrist so I'm hoping that they release a version with a bracelet just like the original prototype had as far as I remember. At that point I would definitely sell some watches to make room for it just bc it looks so wild!! Also how are you liking the P01? have you tried it on different straps?

@@thewatchidiot at first , I did looked at blue bay watch last Christmas but I said to myself, just wait a bit long till something new watch in 2021 and I felt in love with new 925. So I do have Vintage Rolex , Omega AT , Tag Monaco plus G shock. I said to myself one day , there will been a better watch from Tudor brand one day. Most new watch today, can’t compare the vintage watch. This new 925 will been a rare collection and maybe, a one off. Who know !

Yeah it's really weird and the weirder part is that when I went to my AD to potentially send it in to fix the problem we checked the other black bays in the display case and they were all slightly loose too!!! I'm looking to replace the spring bars again hopefully it'll do the trick even tho the ones I'm using are the factory spring bars

Your bracelet wasn’t installed properly. They should not make that noise. Go to a Tudor AD to have them put it in properly. Nice review! 🍻

Yeah weird thing is that my Pelagos also has loose endlinks and ask the tudors at my AD had loose endlinks too! But thankfully it looks like it should of be an easy to fix problem since most people aren't experiencing it. Fingers crossed!🤞🤞

Oh man that sucks, it's such a small detail but such a weirdly useful detail! Actually maybe your AD will be able fix it by popping out the bezel and seeing if something is off underneath. Worth a shot!

I had to google that one looool! but no surgery on the scar by my elbow. I'd love to say that i got the scar while fighting a shark or something but it happened many many years ago when i was a kid. There was a bent metal broom so I proceeded to bend and break it in half, leaving jagged edges. I was acting like i was throwing a javelin and threw it into a trashcan. Little did I know, the jagged edge sliced open the side of my elbow while being launched! I actually didnt even realize that it happened until my mom saw it and freaked out lol. Weird thing was that there wasnt really any blood at all. It was just a bizarre, long, deep, valley-like gash that was quite white with a tiny blood/red line down the middle. I have a feeling you'd have a better idea of what actually happened 😂

Oh how I wish you were right! Definitely would have made my life easier😂 Unfortunately, the spring bars are fully secure with no budge, its just the endlinks rotating slightly on the spring bar (axis) which is really pretty weird. I've asked my AD to look into ordering in a new set of endlinks so hopefully that'll do the trick!

@@watchdd Yeah oem spring bars too which makes it weirder! For every bracelet I always keep them on the oem spring bars. And to make things even weirder I have the same loose endlink problem (to a slightly lesser extent) on my Pelagos and I've worn it on its bracelet since day one!

Nice and congratulations thats awesome! Yeah a lot of the "downsides" of the watch are the parts that I actually really like about it! Also a couple questions for you since I'm pretty close to getting one, is the dial color gray most of the time and does it look as warm as it does in pics and videos? Also whats the weight like compared to a steel watch?

@@thewatchidiot the watch shines and comes alive at different angles. It looks bigger than the steel blackbay. It's an illusion of course. Weight wise it is alot heavier than the steel.. its just less than gold on the periodic table and nearly twice that of iron

Oh man I've been eyeing those for a while they look sooooooooooo good! I wish every watch had an integrated rubber strap option However, now that I'm leaning more towards selling it and getting the 925 I want to make sure I don't fall in love with it all over again with the strap😂😂

@@thewatchidiot I love the new 925 also, but worry about tarnish and more importantly damage to the soft precious metal case. The case back is a neat idea, but the great performing movement is not a “looker!”

Yeah I totally agree those were all my thoughts at first as well (and to a certain extent still are my thoughts) but I think the 925 happens to work with me solely bc of the spot it's taking in my collection. It's just so weird and bizarre and so unlike anything else in my collection that it works! And this is probably the only ticket to precious metal watch ownership at this point lol. Thankfully I baby my watches (a bit too much😂) so hopefully any scratches that come through will only "add character" looool!

Get that shit bracelet back to where you bought it from and ask for fix, the end links shouldn't move like that. I have the same problem with the bracelet in terms of adjusting it. I've tried the watch on leather and natos, but it just doesn't work for me. Still looking for metal options. As for the movement, I'd add it to the negatives. If you wear your Tudor for a couple of days without manually winding, leave it on a shelf, does it still tick after 48 hours? As far as I checked, it only works for 3 days straight ONLY if fully wound. Silver Tudor is boring as hell and thicker thanks to the useless case back as that movement is as boring as the watch itself. Think about it!
