Using the tugs hull form to increase the line force on a direct pull. As the speed through the water declines the force that is able to be generated is reduced. The line force generated is dependent on the hull shape, static bollard pull of the tug, and the speed through the water, not over the ground.

hello please what is the the difference between this Indirect Braking and direct pulling a stern ?

The indirect braking only is a result of tug hull/skeg being inclined to the water flow. At full power the tugs with small skegs will pull through the resistance and straighten the tug, then it will become a direct pull. If the skeg is large and power is low then the tug may not be able to pull the skeg in line. Thus adding the hull resistance to the total pull on the line.
