Rugby salaries would be tiny compared to NFL. It's not as popular as say soccer in europe, and america is huge. Also rugby union (the most popular form of rugby everywhere but Australia and Northern England) has only been professional since the '90s, before that it had enforced amateurism (in the old Olympic sense, it was always a very popular sport). So more money is coming in with TV deals and so on and wages are going up since it has turned pro (especially in France, which has a huge tv deal). Dan Carter is the top paid I believe and he earns £1,400,000. Top players would get anywhere from around £300, 000+ but most players earn less than that. But that's still a good wage, and at the minute rugby union kind of has one foot in the old amateur era and one foot in the new professional era. I would hate it to see it become completely commercialised like soccer. And there are also more important things than money, if it was only about money I am sure more pacific islanders especially would try and make the NFL, but it's also about what you've been brought up, what's part of your culture and so on. Rugby league is a bit different since it has always been professional (what the split was about in the 1890s), but is pretty similar. The NRL has a lot of money. Not to say there's no interest in trying NFL like Hayne did. And yeah Taumaolo gave the combine thing a go, naturally NFL scouts where impressed (and it's not like he trained specifically in advance for the drills like NFL prospects do) and he was invited back to do more private trials for some teams but he got a huge deal from the Cowboys (his NRL team) for 10 years making him the top paid in the league so thankfully he stuck with rugby league! I do like NFL but it's too specialised from a rugby pov, someone like Taumaolo would be wasted playing such limited time. If he was gonna swap I'd have loved to see him crossover to union and try for the All Blacks. In rugby we would just call a stiff-arm a hand-off, or a fend. ps. don't forget to react to hurling!
