Your Excellency the President, Government of India, New Delhi Subject: - Memorandum regarding declaration of the site as an archaeological monument on the discovery of the statue of Buddha Tathagata and Buddhist remains in Ayodhya district Faizabad Uttar Pradesh. Sir , It is to be informed that during excavation in Ayodhya District Faizabad Uttar Pradesh, 2000 year old Buddhist statues, inscriptions, Dhammachakra etc. Buddhist symbols and relics are being received. Which are valuable from the point of view of archaeological and historical importance. You yourself are scholarly and knowledgeable that tampering with historical sites of archaeological importance, changing their composition and texture is like erasing history and is an unforgivable crime. Maintenance and control of many Buddhist sites throughout India is Archaeological Survey of India ( ASI) has! All these places have historical significance During the leveling and excavation in Ayodhya, the historical and archaeological significance of the Tathagata Buddha statue and Buddhist symbol remains cannot be denied. You yourself are aware that tampering, sabotaging or making any kind of alteration in the design of sites of archaeological importance is a punishable offense according to the Archaeological Sites and Remains Act 1958 and the Precious Artwork Act 1972. Today on 23 May 2020, an important meeting of Buddhist scholars and historians was held in Lucknow under the chairmanship of Buddhist monk Sumit Ratna Thera. The following proposal was unanimously passed in this meeting: --- 1. Normal excavation of a site of high primary and historical importance should be stopped with immediate effect 2. The site should be duly excavated under the supervision of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). 3. The excavation site should be protected as a national monument by giving it the jurisdiction of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). 4. A joint delegation of Indian history scholars and archaeologists and Buddhist scholars should inspect the excavation site and submit their report to Parliament. 5. The grand temple of Maryada Purushottam Lord Shri Ram should be constructed at some other place in Ayodhya itself.
