Hear me out, like the Old Birds, they should be sleeping until around 9-10 AM, giving players some time to notice the kidnapper fox, and get to the base. Also, the weeds can spread so quickly, allowing more foxes to spawn? Why? Maybe if multiple foxes spawn, they can fight each other if they have the same target, allowing you to run away. That, or simply only have one fox that can only respawn if it's killed, blame it on territory or something because other kidnapper foxes will hide until they see some vain shrouds being unoccupied, then steal it before anything else gets it.
