There's a wonderful book called Tulipmania by Anne Goldgar which charts the fabulous history of tulips in holland in the mid-1600's. Flamed & striped tulip bulbs (which are due to a 'tulip breaking virus',) were coveted status symbols of the rich bringing prices higher than the average year's salary per bulb! It was the 1st trading market item speculated on & bulbs were a make or break market. Truly fascinating when viewed through a modern day lens & en masse as here at Longwood, it's easy to see how they have been an obsession. Thanks for the beautiful, eye catching tour, Danielle!

I live close to the Netherlands and I go to Keukenhof every April to see the flowers. I highly recommend going, but don't plan to record a tour of all the tulips, because it would take you weeks :)

Thank you for this precious gift this morning. The bells, the birds, the mist and your lovely soothing narration made this video a serene delight. Here in Southeast Michigan, we are in the low 30’s with snow showers. Last week, we had three days in the 80’s. My 500 daffodils have been blooming since Easter and have made it through a 50 degree temperature fluctuation in a week. But we do not have a single tulip anywhere in our area. They have decided not to poke their heads up yet!

Delightful! Thank you immensely for this tulip tour at Longwood Gardens. In Colorado Zone 5b, only the very first tulips are blooming so far, like Exotic Emperor and the Gregii tulip “Concerto.”

I wonder if the tulip that looked like an early Queen of Night was actually the earlier-blooming Continental. Longfield Gardens mentions, “Continental's purple-maroon flowers are almost as dark as Queen of Night, but they bloom several weeks earlier.” Ronaldo is another potential answer.

You're so lucky to live so close to Longwood! I used to live near Gibbs Gardens in Georgia that looks like this in the spring. This video reminded me of home!

Oh my gosh!!! I'm pretty sure we were there on the same day!! I am so bummed I missed you. I just couldnt get my husband up for early hours. LOL The tulips were incredible! The next blooms i'm looking forward to are the wisteria trees. I get so much inspiration when i'm there. I'm lucky enough to live just a few minutes up the road (As you may be able to tell from my channel name) :) Someday I may be lucky enough to see you there. In the meantime I did get a hat so I could channel my inner Danielle when working in my garden. :)

So beautiful! But what else would you expect from Longwood Gardens? I used shades of purple, soft yellow and white tulips this year, and was very pleased. I will be doing this again next year. I do wonder how they got the Queen of the Night and Early Prince tulips to bloom at the same time? I was able to get an extended bloom time (albeit early!) this year by using early, mid and late tulips in various spots of my garden.

SO pretty ! TY Danielle . I love those tall skinny trees too ..the ones you can look through kinda..wonder what they are ?If you google Foxy Foxtrot Tulip its not pink? When I saw those I thought they were Angelique ? Oh it could just be "Foxtrot" , that is pink like that, not Foxy Foxtrot .
