My dream kit

I own a set of N&C CD Maples. I demo'd the Tulip while at N&C and I can state unequivocally the "woods" sound different and distinct. For whatever reason, N&C shells seem to accentuate the woods more than other kits I've heard. DW has this "thud" sound. Gretsch combines sounds for that "Gretsch sound", and Yamaha, Tama, and Pearl seem to sound the "same" to me. (Tama bubinga being the exception.) The only other to do that "to me" was Sonor. My $.02 anyway and I'm obviously jaded.... Lol.

Tulipwood is also known as Poplar.

Yep, just like there are some folks out there who are sanitation engineers. Funny how changing one word makes one think something is worth more. Guess that's why marketing teams make the big bucks lol
@moejartin32585 ай бұрын
Probably how they justify putting such a huge price tag on the kit, by calling it tulipwood lol

There are 35 different types of "Poplar", that vary greatly in quality and density. It's like saying "all Toyota is car".
@jawdropshop4 ай бұрын
that sure as hell doesn’t sound like regular old poplar tho 😂
@edwardkaminsky81424 ай бұрын
Tulipwood and yellow poplar are two accepted names for the hard wood species. Tulip poplar is actually not a poplar but a member of the Magnolia family. Noble and Cooley Magnolia drums LOL The Tulip wood appearently is more eye appealing. Those shells sound heavenly.

Dang! Being tuned beautifully helps. They do sound amazing.

They sound very tympanic. A clean high end that is mellow. Love them. Tulip (poplar) is a beautiful cream white wood and just goes to show that any wood can sound nice if made properly. Edit: Poplar may get a bad rep due to cheap poplar kits being made with questionable quality but it is a seriously sonorous wood

@@drumcenternh I assume these are probably the high quality high density variants then.

What a rich sound!! Very sweet and a bit bitter like chocolate. Rich mid and low range, and not keen at high range at all.

Such a rich and clean tone😂 but expensive well worth it.

It doesn't matter what wood drums are made of. What matters is well done bearing edges and good heads
@drumcenternh5 ай бұрын
While bearing edges and heads make a huge difference, along with the ability to properly tune, the type of wood objectively affects the sound.

What batter heads are you using Ambassadors on top and Diplomats on the bottom?
Sounds very clean, however it sounds like tulipwood accentuates high tones which I don't particularly like.
@keithpratt18495 ай бұрын
It is possible those are ambassador heads on top. That would lend to the higher tones.
@escadrums25 ай бұрын
@@keithpratt1849 could be, still to me the tone is still high, could be that I prefer darker woods like Walnut though
@keithpratt18495 ай бұрын
Actually I do also. I use emperors on top and do not use the higher tuning like jazz players Even Peart and Bonham used higher tuning. But Bonham used big drums. I am sure you know that. The Mapex maple/ walnut will be my next kit. These guys tune drums so, so good. A pleasure chatting. What part of the world are you in? I have lived in NE Texas for one year.
