I don’t understand your comment. He was a main event singles wrestler before going to Crockett. When he joined he went into a feud with Dusty (the top baby face). Then he joined Arn and had a long run with the tag belts. They even had the tag belts in the WWF for a time. Cornette has stated that they made way more money then the Midnight Express and the Midnight wasn’t cheap. So, saying he is underrated just isn’t accurate. If anything he got every bit out of his smaller (compared to other wrestlers) frame. One of the best talkers of his era. Arn and Tully were a couple of the very few wrestlers who did their own talking after being given a manager. Also, they wrestled under their own names as champions in WCW/Crockett. Giving them a tag team gimmick would have damaged what they had built. I can’t think of another team that did that. Even Dusty and Magnum were known as America’s Team. Of course they were the Brainbusters in the WWF but that was what Vince always did.

***** The cocaine problem surely didn't help Tully's argument either....he was a bit out of control back when he was "let go" by then WWF....he has admitted this on numerous occasions so to now hear him say he was NEVER rehired by another promotion isn't all true on many levels and him being such a crusader on his faith I'd think he'd "hear" what he is saying as well.....just my take.....awaits the onslaught that will be coming my way.....Cheers All

The Horsemen were never the same without Tully. I think Benoit could have replaced him in 89/90 but it would have had to be the Benoit of 97-02 so the timeframe never matched. As Tully once said he was the spark that got the fire going. Without Flair, Arn, & Tully as the core it never worked. Ole, Windham, Pillman, & Benoit were all great legitimate members though.

To me, there were only two iterations of the horsemen that appeared to actually gel as a cohesive team: the original with Ole, and Barry Windham. The original 3 of Flair, Blanchard and Arn were the de facto non-negotiable parts of that faction. The 4th kept changing, but Barry & Ole were the only ones that seemed to me to be great fit. Luger didn't. Benoit (though I truly liked his in-ring work) didn't. Pillman was okay, just not great yet. Mongo was a travesty (rest his soul) as a wrestler in general.

Tully & Wahoo was one of hell of a Two Man Power Trip team known as the Awesome Twosome because they would destroy the faces like Dusty, Flair, Steamboat & others. I am in the minority but I thought they should have kept Luger instead of Windham . Barry just couldn't work heel and did not fit the horsemen . I am not saying he stunk just that his quality was different , biker or cowboy different . Luger couldn't work very well at the time but he had Frat Boy Jock written all over him which made him a natural heel .

The biggest crime was Crockett letting Ted Dibiase go to the WWF, because from what I understand they had always planned on a Flair / Luger program from day one so he was eventually going to split from them. Dibiase would have been great in that spot even more so than Luger. Gino might have been even better had he been alive by that point. Also dont laugh but I think David Von Erich would have been great in that role as well. But I agree, Windham was a better face.

Yeah basically he looked good in a suit when he was with them. And I did like him as a heel in late 92 and 93, but in 1988 it seemed like he was just shoved in there almost like it was a last minute decision. Although his in ring talent made him passable. But definately didn't have the heel quality that Ole or even Luger had and certainly not the promo skills of Ole.
