You would not believe all the expensive glass I find at garage sales that people are practically giving away. If I had known about this reselling of glass that people do years ago I would have done it. It hasn't been till recently ( the past 2-3 years that I have been realizing the value. Do you ever watch that youtube channel Dr. Laurie? She tells people the value of the things that people find at garage sales and thrift stores.

Love, love, love your videos. I am new to making my own sea glass. I got a rock tumbler and the grit. Now I just need to break my wine bottles that are saved for me. My question is? Are wine bottles good to use for making glass pieces?
@crazyglasslady
@crazyglasslady 9 ай бұрын
The thicker the glass the better. And it all depends on if you want them to look chunky or flat and thin. So I have been doing a lot with glass now where I just tumble for an hour or 2 with just water just to take the sharp edges off.

At about 1:25 I noticed when you showed the orange and the purple ones you said that they tumbled 'clear'. But they actually turned out frosted white didn't they? That's what I am looking for, is how to make the frosted white.
@crazyglasslady
@crazyglasslady Ай бұрын
Yes all clear glass ( colorless glass) will turn frosted white and any painted glass the paint will be tumbled off and will turn frosted like that the abrasive from the grit kind of scratches it and makes it look frosted. Now if you pour resin over it the frosted look will disapear and it will become clear.

Sounds crazy but how do you “break” your glass ? Special bag, hammer etc ?
@crazyglasslady
@crazyglasslady 2 жыл бұрын
I break it up out in the garage in a wooden box , throw a towel over it then hit it with a hammer. That's what I do for most of the glass. but Now I am starting to shape some of the glass before I put it in the tumbler. So If you look toward the end of the MJR tumbler review I am in the garage on the floor LOL breaking up glass. Or if you watch my video with the big old window with sunflowers ( It's a more recent video) It will show me cutting and shaping the sunflower petals before I throw them in the tumbler. I also tumble stained glass for about 24 hour just to remove the sharp edge. Hope that helps.

Do you do broken glass art? There are some people who work with broken glass only and do not tumble it. It is a preference. With broken glass art the edges remain sharp and any one who touches it can cut themselves. It is the look of it that some people prefer. Especially for coastal projects. If you watched the video you can see what the glass looks like before and after. It is a personal preference. I personally enjoy the broken glass art also but have a hard time giving it to someone else especially if they have kids. If you are selling it you would have to provide a disclaimer, telling them not to touch the edges or they could cut themselves. If you watched the video I also showed you the 2 small tumblers I use along with the pros and cons. They are both listed with links just above this under the description if you click on more.
