Brand new dad of an 8 days old healthy baby girl Stella. Tummy time just came naturally to me: the first time I held my baby at the hospital, I sat in a recliner and put her on my chest, I looked her in the eyes as she tried to lift her head up and my heart just melted. It is truly a blessing and a privilege to be this precious little girl's dad.

Hoping I can be of as much help to my beautiful new family. I’ve went from watching vehicle mod videos to tummy time videos. I can proudly say I feel 100% complete and accomplished in life!! Pediatric OT here! This video is so great and gives such simple and doable information! One thing I would add is that *ideally* tummy time should be done on a flat, hard surface, so working up to doing more time on the floor is preferred over using a boppy or rolled up blanket, but those supports are such a great way to get started if your child has a hard time on the floor at first. Thanks so much for sharing this info Nekole! ❤️

I had no idea that tummy time could be this beneficial and an actual thing. I’ve heard of tummy time referenced so much without anyone explaining what it is but I assumed it was just random time on the baby’s tummy. So glad this video came up on my home dashboard before becoming a daddy in 3.5 months. Thank you!

My first born HATED tummy time. I would always try, and he would just lay his little head down and cry hysterically. As much as I tried and as many different things that i tried, tummy time never worked with him. He ended up being delayed in the gross motor area, took forever to roll over, stand up, and walk, and I was told his muscles are less developed than other kids his age. I now have my second and I'm praying things work better with her.

Personally, I think brand new babies are too young for acrobatics. They are held pretty constantly when they are just out of the womb and new, so they can lie on your chest and lift their little head there for a few weeks. I have never had a new baby that would put up with being on their stomachs while awake. I understand the principle behind it, though.
@RetailTherapyAddict
@RetailTherapyAddict 3 жыл бұрын
@@PresAdams-bz2ep I never did tummy time with my son as a newborn, I really didn't see the point as he lifted his head and used his core strength while being held and so many other instinctive ways. He natrually progressed to wanting and enjoying being on his belly and even sleeping on his tummy. I get the idea too but I don't know if that's what would've caused the delays in your child? My son has never had any issues in his gross motor skills or anywhere else physically and he never did tummy time as a newborn. All the best with your second child and trust your mama instincts 👍

I hold my baby on his tummy on my chest a lot during the day, but didn't know I should be actually starting tummy time already, he'll be 4wks in a couple days 🤦🏻‍♀️ I already feel like I'm failing as a mother 😭 I will start tomorrow, he was a premature baby and he's been a very sleepy baby, so awake and alert times have been rare. He's started being awake more now and so I cannot wait to get him started. And thanks to you I'll be looking up how to make sure I'm doing all the developmental things in the future. Thank you

I subscribed and just as suspected, you are an OT!!! I love that you educate parents throughly. I taught for 11 years at an early childhood center for early intervention and kindergarten readiness. I always had access to a rainbow of therapists. Now that I’m on my own (in-home preschool), I’m having to be a bit creative with my students!! I now have a four year old with very weak fine motor skills. I’ve tried play dough, coloring, tearing paper...to self-help skills (such as pulling legos apart to putting on his shoes). My goal is to have him make a strong fist and moving his index finger independently. Any ideas?

I'm a first time mum as well and I'm shocked that no one mentioned or told me about this. I was told to do tummy time at the very beginning, straight after my baby was born but no one told me to continue tummy time after I left the hospital. :/ congrats btw ^_^

The ball is a great idea. My 6 week old loves tummy time. I love it after feeding, she burps easier in the reclined position on my chest. Great video

Tummy time really worked for 2 of my kids. I have a 2 month old right now and she sleeps on her tummy at night and she can sleep for 6-7 hours straight... she can also turn her head easily from left to right and vice versa...

I love your videos!! I am a PT and have things I’d love to put out there to share as well because so many people have little nagging aches & discomforts but aren’t severe enough to seek treatment yet don’t know how to correct and prevent worsening on their own. I’d love to pick your brain if you ever have a moment. Like how far in advance of posting a video do you plan it out? Do you know right now for instance what next weeks videos will be? And how did you even get started doing these? You are very organized and easy to follow. Your flow through your information is flawless!

Hi Cindy! Thank you so much for your kind words!! You absolutely should share your knowledge if that is what you want to do. I am sure there are so many people who would benefit. I *try* to plan content out 1-2 months in advance, but things come up and I will sometimes shuffle the order. I do know what the few weeks look like, but I try to leave some room for error as I may be relying on someone else's timeline to complete a video, etc. I started randomly posting family vlogs actually haha. I was just playing around and seeing if it was something I could get behind. Then my son was born and I wanted to share what I was doing with him to enhance his development. Decided to be consistent and really commit about 10 months ago and have been loving it! I hope that helps! Shoot me an email if you have any other questions. Hello@kidsOThelp.com :)
